i had my ret visa transferred to show in new passport so i guess DTV is handled differently

If you are arriving with a new passport show both. Then when you can go to immigration and get the DTV transferred to new passport.

i read he has a retirement visa. The date it expires is constant on every reenty stamp he receives that year if he travels into Thailand . Harry Chan explained it best regarding reentry permits.

I have same and make freq trips to USA. You do nothing. You can exit at will. When you return your valid stay remains until 8 april 2025 each time. Keys is that you have a multi entry stamp. Enjoy Songkran

You are visa exempt…30 day stay. Can extend it another 30 day at immigration for a small fee or do a land crossing to a neighboring Cambodia (Laos requires a visa) and stamp back in for another 30 days
