 I had absolutely no problems with getting the required documents from BKK branch in Udon Thani - my account was opened in Pattaya.

 what people "think" is really not relevant at all. Wife dies and you may be allowed to stay until your current permission to stay expires (assuming here on a non o). Wife divorce you you must leave within 7 days
