I spoke to my local Thai Embassy and they stated very clearly that they would not process a TR visa unless a flight ticket was provided.

Kasikorn opened an account for me while I was visiting on a 30 day visa on arrival. By presenting my blue book and a bunch of documents related to the house purchase, they opened within an hour.

Thats the one. Had a mental block at the time of writing, checked the card later, yes Kasikorn. I used the branch in Market Village. Had to take my passport and blue book.

I opened an account at the green bank with my tourist visa (one month), took about 20 minutes, atm card issued immediately, after depositing funds.
