Hi guys, I'm looking to fly in from Vietnam. Direct flights SYG>BKK are $530 with Vietnam Airlines. But one stop up to Singapore with a 12 hour layover is only about $120 with an airline called Scoot (any good?).

Anyone made the trip recently? Advice? Potential problems at Singapore? Thanks.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The inquiry discusses flying from Vietnam to Bangkok, weighing a direct flight with Vietnam Airlines versus a cheaper, one-stop flight with Scoot. Responses indicate that Scoot is a budget airline under the Singapore Airlines umbrella and generally provides a decent service, although experiences vary. Key points include the importance of adhering to Singapore's transit rules, especially regarding COVID-19 testing and baggage policies. Some travelers recommend a transit hotel for long layovers, while others suggest checking luggage rules carefully to avoid extra fees. Overall, advice highlights both the pros and cons of flying with Scoot along with specific tips for a smooth transit experience.

Scoot the worsed Airline I ever used.

It is prohibited to bring your own food and drinks on board.

You are not even allowed to bring your own water. Like they are a restaurant or cinema

same with any budget airline

At least Air Asia didn't say anything. But scoot notified it

i explained earlier a little bit about Asian attitudes. You think if they had german stewards on air asia they would have let you get away.

Most people with common sense and who travel a lot know this is how budget airlines make there money

@Michael *******
I just never saw it on any other airline. As I flew with air asia already and nobody told us not to eat or drink outside stuff on plane🤷‍♂️

But scoot they did

It is not a restaurant after all.

And drinking water is like a human right🤣

@Marc *******
Ryan air even charge you for the toilet.

They all actually have these rules air asia as well, difference being Scoot is singapore run and Singaporeans stick to the rules. Air Asia is malay and thai and if you know anything about these countries you will know they are more flexible.

You mean SGN. Scoot are excellent.

I put in two dates and was quoted ฿3400 and ฿3600 ($112-$115) or ฿7500 ($248) for a direct flight...

great😃

You might want to look at (depending on intended dates) going SGN HAN, then HAN DMK. About ฿ 2400, but much quicker than going to Sing.

I've booked SGN-BKK with Thái Viết Air. On the approved semi-comercial list, Flight no VZ3971 every Friday. Web is skyfun.Vietnet. Price was just short of 14k Thb so not cheap but it's like 1.5 direct flight as opposed to the long drag through Singapore, which I didook at. Figured given the whole cost of getting back and hopefully there is less likelyhood of something going wrong it was worth it. Fingers crossed โชคดี

I used Scoot for part of my journey, the SIN-BKK leg. Plane was quite new, comfortable and cabin crew are pleasant. Beware the inflight meal and you probably need to pay more for baggage. Note for Singapore transit you must use airlines within the same family for arrival and departure. Scoot is in the Singapore Airlines / Silk Air family. Recommend.
David ********
Then it should be smooth for you.

Have done two stopovers in Singapore in the last year (19 and 11 hours). No problem but I would recommend booking a transit hotel otherwise you will be confined to a small transit area for the duration.

Scoot is Singapore Air's budget carrier and is in the same group...transit in Singapore is easy and convenient in the quarantine transit lounge...no issues with singapore..it ll be Thai requirements that be a pain

Ivan Hiver Thanks, gotya

Think Singapore transit though is take covid test 72 hours before not get results 72 hours before as per Thai entry requirements.

Singapore is all set up ok for transit passengers. Its segregated and you will be guided and advised where you can go.

Singapore Airport letting people stay up to 24h as long as you are flying with the same airline. But in the transfer area
Izik *********
Just be careful to buy the all route with one airline, as this is the rule of Singapore

@Izik ********
I know someone who just flew Singapore Airlines from Australia to Sg, then Scoot from Sg to BKK. He’s in BKK ASQ hotel now
