First of all , don't get rude and stay calm and discuss things and don't look down to people.
I just used his own words to make it clear that he can extent his 30 stay( it is called a Visa on arrival) and it is a visa if you haven't known that yet until now. The only thing is that you don't need to go to Thai embassy for that because for 30 days you get a visa on arrival.
And getting another 30 days stay is called extension too. Anything you do to stay more than you just have is an extension.
I recommended him those two ways because I just wanted to prevent him from having trouble with his next travels. As we all know an Overstay can have negative impact on his plans to get visa in future.
I just mentioned a change of flight as a possibility. But it is up to him he can pay overstay fees and have a problem in future or he can pay either for an extension 1900 Baht or for a flight change and so have a clean record for the future.
