If you leave Thailand without a RE-ENTRY PERMIT your extension will be voided.

Single Entry Re-entry Permit is ฿1000

Multiple Entry Re-entry Permit is ฿3800

Get it before you go!

, to provide background information on the Penang visa experience, including requirements and where to find the information.

Did you skip dinner? Why the tone?

I’m afraid no work is allowed on a dependent visa. I’m quite sure you’ll have to make a trip home.

I made my visa in Penang, last August and police clearance was part of the checklist then (for teachers).

, we are talking about a penalty for not reporting an alien resident. Most resident aliens are reported by Thais.

If there are fines being handed out legally and not a corruption grab, wouldn’t there be lots more Thais guilty of violating this rule? Why are they not being penalized?

The poster didn’t say they have been staying at a hotel.

Surely, if they wanted to collect ฿1600, no hotel receipt would suffice.

Question - How many times have you been asked for your passport in your daily Thai life? I haven’t once been asked for mine in many years (outside of where you’d need it).

, I can only agree.

And, I would hate to have been asked to pay one. Because, I’d likely have refused and suffered any consequence.

Funny, that despite ALL the reports, over the past couple of years of this re-reporting your address after even one night spent outside of your registered province, I have yet to hear of a single Thai person being fined for not reporting. But, they have charged countless foreigners? Would you agree?

One common denominator is that it’s always at immigration, not while leaving the country.

(If they could only have this good of a system to keep track of their own citizens, maybe crime would decrease.)

Not at all.

I am saying that Immigration is giving fines to foreigners, but not to Thais. And, I don’t think it’s right or fair. Every week I hear of a new report. Each instance it’s the same few districts. It appears to be nothing other than a money grab. It’s always a new ‘interpretation’. The latest was just this morning.

The poster did not say where they were. If they fall into one of these jurisdictions, they may be in for a surprise when the extension costs almost double their expectations.

If others were faced with their decision, I’d likely recommend they pay upon exit... if nothing else, just to keep more of their hard earned money from the greedy, corrupt hands.
