Can I enter Thailand using a different passport while holding a non-O visa in another passport?

I have 2 independant British passports. Totally seperate numbers and both valid for a number of years.

In one passport I have a non O visa with a re entry stamp.

I am currently outside Thailand. When I go back into Thailand I need to leave again a week later. But rather than entering using my reentry visa, I am thinking of using my second passport for a visa exempt visit and then using my rentry visa the next time I enter.

Anyone see an issue with this.

Thx

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user holds two valid British passports, one with a non-O visa and a re-entry permit, and is considering using the second passport to enter Thailand visa exempt. Community members warn that Thai immigration is likely to connect the two passports through the database, which could lead to questioning. Suggestions emphasize the importance of using the passport with the non-O visa for the safest and most compliant entry, rather than risking complications for the sake of avoiding a re-entry fee.

As this is not bringing any new options and all is discussed, I close the commenting. Feel free to post an update on how things went on.

I would not do that.

Immigration will find it and not like it. If your motivation is to save the cost of a re-entry permit, they might see it as a way to beat the system and make you pay for it one way or another. They would not allow a person to be in Thailand under 2 different visas on 2 passports. They might even cancel your non-O.

a visa is issued to a person and is passport specific meaning you can't use a Non-Immigrant visa in one passport to get stamped into the country on another passport (even if BOTH passports are from the same country). The passports are treated as two separate things entirely.

I might be too pessimistic here. My thought was that a visa is given to a person, not to a passport

Let's not go over board :O There is NOTHING in thai immigration laws that says you can't hold two passports from the same country and can't enter on what ever one you want to when ever you want to

Whether immigrations likes it or not it's allowed and just because an officer would get pissy doesn't mean they have the ability to cancel a Non-Immigrant visa in another passport.

If they are both legal passports, you would appear to be free to use either when you arrive, but have to use the same one going out. If you use the other passport next time you come in, why should there be a problem?

I have a 90 day visa, which i intend to extend.

And I will only need to exit and re enter a couple of times on the 90 days visa. So didn't want to get the multi entry which costs 3800 i think as I have been told it only is valid for the duration of the specific visa. So I will Get the multi for the 1 year visa later on.

And yes was not gonna use it to Save paying the 1000 bht for single re entry. But if there is a risk, I would rather pay the 1000 bht than go back to the Thai embassy to do it all again.

And yes the 2 passports is because of my work. Very handy really.

Thx for the reply

Or you can do 2 single reentry permits. IMO your risking a lot over 1000Baht

Yep I think that is the wise move.

If I had to get the visa over again then the 1000 bht fee would seem like nothing. So will do it the proper way and keep it risk free. Cheers again

Ahh, you are still on the original 90 day entry of the Non-immigrant visa you got.

You're correct a re-entry permit is ONLY good for that 90 day stamp on that visa itself.

Honestly, while you probably will be able to enter on a 30 day visa exempt entry with the second passport. I personally wouldn't even do it, because you DON'T have a yearly extension from the Non-Immigrant visa in the other passport yet. :/

I'd use the same passport with the current 90 day visa in it no matter what it costs you in re-entry permits to do so until you get the yearly extension. BUT that's just me

We can hold two British passports if we are travelling a lot between countries that have issues with each other. It's quite common In the oil sector.

correct i always had 2 valid passports when working offshore

That explains. Thank you

I didn't know it was possible to have 2 passport from the same country. It really sounds odd to me.

I have had two full british passports for over 25 years now . Britain is one of the few that actually issues FULL second passports that are valid for 10 years. Many countries allow second passports but limit them to 1 or 2 years.

I am a pilot so need my passport every time I Work, but other times I need a passport to get a specific visa for example. Hence the need for 2.

@Liam ****
thank you

There are several reasons. If you regularly travel to countries with difficult visa processes, if you have been to Israel and want to go to a Muslim country, generally if you travel a lot
Paolo *********
Pierre Seigneur both valid? Why would someone need 2?
Liam *****
It's allowed by quite a few western countries, including the UK
Tod *********
So you have a yearly extension and a re-entry permit in one passport and nothing in your other one?

Is the reason you don't want to use your passport with the extension in it because you have only a single entry re-entry permit?

I agree with
@Rob***
, the immigration people at passport control are definitely going to match your information in their data base to the old passport information. SO if you wanna enter on a 30 day visa exempt entry on the passport without the extension in it. definitely be prepared to be questioned. A friend of mine has two US passports and he was put thru the wringer comin' in on his other US passport by passport control. They have a hard time understanding we can hold two passports from the same country that are BOTH valid at the same time.

The Immigration Database will connect your two passports, the search is on name, DOB, gender, Nationality. If the officer notice this, you will get some questions.
