they are brilliant ,I've lived in Cambodia for 14 yrs and SEA for 20 yrs and they have been brilliant with any inquiry ,I was stuck in Thailand during COVID and the Irish embassy were brilliant with help, they always reply to emails very quickly π»
I'm just about to do the same with my Irish passport, application on line but when passport still has a few years left on it ,it has to be returned, but I go to Irish consulate for them to see the passport and can retain it active in Thailand while new application goes ahead, then I pick up new one after approximately 4 weeks and in receipt of it from consulate the old one is redundant and new one active ,but I keep together as entrance stamps in old one ,I would imagine the US embassy has similar policy but email your embassy for confirmation ππ½

why not spend your time between different SEA countries ,Thailand you will get 60 days +30 extension ,then go out and come back and get the same again ,giving you total of 180 days, then maybe look at Malaysia ,either mainland or Sabah, you will get 90 days free there or Vietnam ,all are great to visit, rather than basing just in one ,as you did say you wanted to travel ππ½π»
