some embassy staff don’t check the list thoroughly and approve the visa right away, while others have specific staff assigned to carefully review it.
The policy varies from embassy to embassy, as the Thai government gives each one full discretion to process and approve visa applications independently, without needing to consult the Ministry of Foreign Affairs—except in cases involving watchlisted applicants from certain countries.
In this case, I wouldn’t call it a scam — it was simply a matter of luck that he got approved.
Anonymous participant the school can told you anything there is no real proof that they are telling the truth. Did you get money refund for course fee?
is your muaythai school doc included the following
1. School certificate from ministry of education?
2. Board of boxing certificate from ministry of tourism?
3. Company registration from ministry of commerce?
4. Thai owner id?
Some muaythai school claims to have these doc but actually they dont, the embassy have the lists of approved school in their system(it is an excel spreedsheet of approved muaythai gym qualified for dtv and edvisa )and if your school is not on their listed , your visa will be rejected.
Just find a gym that offer full refund, we offer full refund if visa is rejected. There is no point of charging for the course fee if you are not in thailand to attend the course.(we even accept paypal so you can be protected by paypal policy that you will be covered for the refund if visa is rejected)
We think you can try applying in the U.S., but you should include a cover letter on the front page of your financial documents explaining your situation.
It should cover the following points:
1. Your total assets, worth approximately XXX USD, are held in a brokerage account.
2. The funds come from your previous jobs and investments.
3. You have decided to apply for the DTV visa and have transferred a portion of your funds to this account.
If you apply in the U.S., the embassy staff will likely be familiar with Schwab brokerage accounts, which may increase your chances of approval.
There is still a risk of rejection, but the most you would lose is the 10,000 THB visa fee. If you’re approved, you’ll save yourself a lot of hassle compared to applying in a neighboring country of Thailand.
If you plan to visit thailand in mid of september, you should apply for dtv around mid august.
If your workcation documents look weak and you don’t want to risk losing the 10,000 Baht visa fee, it’s better to go for the Soft Power option.
Consider learning Muay Thai or taking a Thai cooking class — it will save you a lot of headaches, and you’ll actually gain a new skill in Thai culture and possibly make new friends along the way.
