What are the best steps for applying for a DTV visa in Thailand if concerned about approval?

Hey everyone!

Just asking for maybe some advice / insight on what would be best to do.

My wife and I are planning to move to Thailand in September. We’re currently staying in the Canary Islands (not registered here though).

Now, we want to get a DTV visa (Muay Thai), and I have over a million baht in my account, but not for longer than 3 months yet. In the end of November I will get an additional 1.5 million deposit into my account so there would be plenty in terms of ‘$$’ in my account to cover us both.

Now we’re thinking to fly to Thailand mid September on a visa exemption on arrival (60 days), then extend with another 30 days AND THEN fly to a neighboring country to get our DTV visas done there.

We’re also thinking about getting a condo in Thailand when we arrive, but I understand that most landlords only allow a minimum stay / contract of 1 year, which is totally fine with us, but ‘what if’ our DTV visas for some reason wouldnt be approved, ‘what then?’ Is kinda what we’re thinking.. Is it then possible to fly to Thailand anyway and for example get an ED visa instead? We’ve only been to Thailand once last year for 3 weeks so no overstay/borderruns etc etc..

Just kinda looking into how maybe some of you have done it and maybe have some advice?

Many thanks yall!!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking advice on applying for a DTV visa for Muay Thai training in Thailand and the implications of renting a condo before securing the visa. They plan to travel on a visa exemption and extend their stay, followed by a trip to a neighboring country to obtain the DTV visa. Concerns include potential visa rejection and the terms of renting a condo in Thailand if their visa is not approved, leading to discussions about renting short-term and alternative visa options like the ED visa.

If you sign a one year lease and do not get a Visa you are still accountable for the lease - so might be best if as suggested you do short term rental air bnb or other - some places will offer month to month leases but understand you pay more - usually in newer buildings in very small apartments - but lots of services. The big thing for you to know if the lease is not tied to your Visa - some will have "diplomatic clauses" but because you will not be here via a work visa - you will not be able to access as they generally speak to being transferred by your workplace - originaly for diplomats but also applicable for private sector employment. Hope this is responsive to your question

You may be rejected if the 500.000 Baht is in a joint account and not seperat account, corresponding with the name of the applicant.

If the money hasn’t been in the account for the prescribed length of time for that specific Embassy, then wait to apply until the money has been in the account long enough.

Start by renting accommodation, you may find out that, where you thought it was nice to stay, isn’t the right place.

Everyday life could be very different from holiday life.

what do think about Long-Term Resident Visa (LTR) includes a “Work-From-Thailand Professional” category and the money you invest in an 6 or 8 years in gov. fund? This most of my young customers make (while staying 5-7 Years in Thailand and can return the money anytime they want, with no loos.

You could get AIRBNB for a month as well. Minimum should be 30 days.

Think you will have no problems. Should be able to get a condo with a 6 month lease.

Good luck

Number of DTV applications are rejected for various reasons and there's nothing stopping you from resubmitting your application with sufficient approvable info. That said, using the proper school with the proper documentation and the likeliness of rejection is extremely low.

DTV is much better than Ed visa.

you can rent a condo for 3 months(the price per month will be higher - you just need to find a good agent that are willing to negotiate the term for you.

apply in your own country is much easier

But ED and DTV both are NOT visa for living in Thailand.

You should apply for a visa before buying an apartment

If you don't know how to do it, please contact me😊

Why not wait to buy a condo until you have a long term visa? Safest option

It’s possible to do several border runs before needing to get anything official. I did it 4 times back to back before I started getting questioned.

Anonymous participant 339 Like 4 timesX3 months = 12 months?

@anonymous 339: may I ask which embassy did you to apply for DTV? The current embassy I’m applying to is making a hard time because I’ve been on a tourist visa earlier this year and suspect I’ve been working during that time

4x X 2 months. I never extended in-country

Anonymous participant 339 So you lived in Thailand for 8 months straight (with Visa run). I see.

Decide where you want to stay before signing a 1 year contract. There, are shorter terms available. Of course you could get Ed if DTV rejected but from everything you have said I very much doubt it would be rejected. You seem the poster candidate for soft power :-) I would not worry. Try and few locations first on the 90 day visit to decide where you wish to stay ie city, beach, islands, countryside.

1. Yes you can 30 days visa exemption and fly Vietnam/Indonesia for that

2. Married couple can do one Soft Power & one dependent

3. You need 3 months statement of 500k from main applicant

4. Try rent short term 1 month first once you come back with DTV you can find 1 year contract
