I am still open minded. As for the 800k it has been sitting there for years now doing nothing. I was on Retirement, went back to work 4 years on a B and back on Retirement now. I am looking at a Startup with a business partner. We are considering the Smart "S" Visa if we do any work actually in Thailand for Thai legal entities. Alternative is just get DTV - as I say still open minded and decision time next year.

I went to the expat shop close to the office - Pickled Onions and Gerkins were running short. 🙂 There is a nice Lebanese Restaurant close to Jomtien office too but I went early today. Took me 40 minutes at the office today - Jomtien have it down to an art as they have so many to do and they see it as a chore lol. I miss the days when working and had Admin staff in office to do things like this, pay my utility bills, claim for medical etc. The joys of semi-retirement :-)

Yes - someone posted they did it in Bangkok recently and it took 4 hours in person. I just did mine this morning in person at Jomtien and it took 40 mins. I had a longer wait as I was first person in a batch - they collect about 20 and process together.

I cannot see why not. You just do not apply for a visa to do it. Yiu still qualify for the DTV another way

I am looking at it from this viewpoint too. Retirement Visa does not have high requirements to be fair. 800k in the bank as opposed to the 500k for DTV. If retirement requirements change current holders will probably be grandfathered in. I doubt they are ending the DTV anytime soon but they might. Retirement Visa is never going away. What basis would you apply ie medical, cookery etc. What's is still an open question is regarding extensions and entries by Immigration. What happens if they ask to see ongoing gym membership or medical treatment in the future? It is pure speculation at the moment but look at what happened with the ED Visa

Doing it right now in Jomtien. Got here just before 9am and expect to be out before 9:30. When you enter go to building on the right and first desk is 90 day report. Get your TM47 form from them and complete it. Walk across the yard to the other building. Get your passport copied for 6 Baht. Come back to original desk and hand in passport. They give you a number. They will take a bunch of passports through to immigration officer to process when they have enough in a batch. They bring the processed passports back and shout out your number. Very easy at this office and they are efficient.

Find a local gym in Phuket supporting the DTV Visa. Talk to them and get their paperwork. Fly out to Vietnam, Laos or Cambodia and apply there. Should be pretty straight forward.

No, not per year. It is for the whole 5 years. That makes the decision easier :-) Good luck.

You can but it might bring extra inspection of your entries or extensions in the future. Take the risks and accept any consequences. For 350 Euro ?????
