Does it matter so much if her ED visa is coming to an end anyway and shes not extending?

No grace period.

If she hasnt done any land entries this year, she can just hop a land border & back, which'll give her the month she needs

Probably no issue *getting* the visa from Vientiane.

Its getting back in that'll (potentially) be the issue.

Having a visa is not a guarantee of entry, and the decision on whether you can or no, ultimately, rests with the IO dealing with you. Some people get away with just using waivers & TR Visas for periods of multiple months or years, others get quizzed or denied with just a fraction of that time.

All you can really do is make sure you have the Three Proofs (finances, accommodation, and onward travel ticket) available to show the IOs at the border vis-a-vis your phone.

Be also ready to answer questions as to what you're doing in TH that required so many visa-exemptions & now a TR visa, and as to how you're supporting yourself in all this time.

My advice is to avoid Cambodia for visa runs and border bounces, especially Poi Pet.

So many stories of people having problems, getting denied entry etc.

Just go to Laos.

The days of being able to get a *completely* clean slate with a new passport are very much over.

With the touch of a button, your entire history *can* be seen, including previous passports.

However, that isn't to say there are *no* benefits to getting a new passport; the IO might not necessarily do said history check, and just look at your existing few pages.

It looks like no. Haven't encountered any cases of people being denied on a marriage visa. Marriage is, after all, a perfectly valid reason to stay long-term in any country.

The focus seems to be primarily on people on exemptions & tourist visas who are not actually tourists.

Now that tourism is basically back to normal, this is probably just them gently clearing out the people who've been here for extended periods on Covid extensions and then been doing tourist visas and exemptions since.

The message seems to be, basically, "Hey, now that the pandemic is over and the borders are open.... its time to get a long-term visa if you want to stay here longer - or we're going to at least make it more of a headache for you".

@Todd ********
He hasnt specified whether his entries were by land or by air.

Official guidelines are no more than 2x by land.

No official limit for air entries, though the more consecutive entries you have, the greater the likelihood of being at least questioned, and told its time to either wind things up or get a long-term visa.

What Brandon said.

"How long can I stay here on Tourist visas & border bounces" is like asking "how long is a piece of string".

The more such visas and stamps you have, the more likely it gets that you'll be questiined or potentially denied entry; all you can really do to mitigate this is have the Three Proofs ready (in paper or electronic) form to show them when you get to the airport/border crossing:

1) Accommodation 2) Finances 3) Onward travel (air or bus ticket).

I submitted proof of unpaid, cancellable hostel reservation on Booking dot com (in-person, in Kuala Lumpur), and that was accepted.
