Hello,
Just wanted to say that thanks to the help of the admins on this page, I have just returned from Savannakhet with the single-entry Non-O based on marriage.
The documents I submitted were as follows:
- Savannakhet specific applciation form (left section about "guarantor in Laos" blank, gave wife's details as "guarantor in Thailand")
- Two passport photos
- 2000 THB application fee
- Copy of rose-bordered marriage certificate, both sides, signed by wife and me
- Copy of Kor ror 2, both sides, signed by wife and me
- Copy of wife's Thai ID signed by her
- Copy of wife's housebook signed by her
- Copy of my passport biodata page signed by me
- Copy of Laos visa and entry stamp, signed by me
I did give them the original marriage certificate and kor ror 2, but these were given straight back to me. I also had my wife with me, but there was no indication this was necessary. No interview, in fact no interaction at all with the officer. Just handed over the documents and was given a ticket to collect my passport the next day.
Some things first timers organizing their own travel might like to know:
- You can take the bus from Mukdahan to Savannakhet, it runs frequently. Be warned that hotels might tell you that you need to hire a taxi.
- The bus is only 45 thb but don't expect change if you give them more than that at the ticket office
- Do the Laos e-visa instead of visa on arrival. I was the only one in the VOA queue so it only took 5 minutes but the bus still left without me.
- Laos immigration officers might ask you for 100 THB because...well, you can probably guess. No receipt of course.
- Then you might also have to pay 20 THB to go through the electronic gates on the Laos side. This and the last point apply whether you are entering or leaving.
