Hi everyone,

Vientiane have requested an interview dated the 11th December.

Would it look rude if I emailed them to request an earlier date?

Just don’t think I can stay here for too long with my mental health issues. But they have been amazing with the visa process so far. Never expected them to review the documents so quickly.

Timeframe:

27th Nov 6.30pm - entered via Nong Khai land border

28th Nov 6.30am - submitted all workcation docs online

28th Nov 10.30am - paid visa fees at embassy

28th Nov 3pm - request for documents (clearer photograph)

29th Nov 22.30pm - request for interview

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user is seeking advice on whether it would be rude to request an earlier visa interview date from the Vientiane embassy due to mental health issues. While they express appreciation for the quick visa processing so far, they feel it's necessary to address their mental health before the scheduled interview on December 11th. Commenters advise that it is generally acceptable to request an earlier date without mentioning mental health to avoid complications, and suggest that others have successfully moved their appointments up when needed.

I’m in the same boat. Applied on the 24th of Nov, my interview is Dec 8th. I asked them if I could move up the interview because I already had my return flight scheduled as my soft power school instructed me that it would only take a week. They said no and to adhere to the interview time I was given. I wish I hadn’t listened to the school and went to Tapei as I had originally planned. Stuck here for the rest of the week.

You can ask for an earlier interview, many have and they often facilitate this. I wouldn't mention mental health issues, just ask politely. "Being of unsound mind" is legally a reason to exclude an alien, now in practice there is a broad spectrum of mental health and not everything is this but it's not going help your case, no need to mention it.

Even in Laos:

Mahosot Hospital (Vientiane): A public hospital with a psychiatric inpatient and outpatient unit, open to the general public.

Medi Laos International Hospital (Vientiane): A private hospital that provides mental health and addiction services.

Problem solved. Plan hospital visits around your interview date.

Yes, you can request an earlier interview. Others have done the same and given earlier dates.

If you have looked at previous posts, you would see that Laos requires interviews and they are usually scheduled 2ish weeks out. If you tell them it is due to mental health issues, you have to think through, why would you have mental health issues in Laos within two weeks but not in Thailand? Do you have family, children in Thailand? Easier argument to make

DTV_BegPecker If they had family or children in Thailand than the DTV isn’t the appropriate visa for them so it may hinder their application rather than help.

Anonymous participant 725 - why isn’t DTV appropriate if you have family?
