Allow me a question please... about retirement visa process for Americans... I'm over 50 and have pensions... my SSAN alone is over the 800,000 baht requirement...

Recently, I obtained a "pdf" soft-copy letter from the US Social Security Admin... Thai immigration says get the US Consul in Chiang Mai to authenticate it... I've contacted the Consul... but their automatic responses are as clear as mud...

Do I make an appointment for notary services or what? They have more info about what they will not do... than what they, will do to help citizens in Thailand.

Any Americans in Thailand who have dealt with this stamping/notarizing and accomplished this?

Informed input will be appreciated. T I A

American citizen here. Can you apply for a 6 month METV while in Thailand? Here is my dilemma. Thinking of retiring to Thailand?, but before I plop approximately $22,000 US dollars into a Thai bank account I want to spend as close to a year in Thailand to see if it is for me. I don't know whether to get a 6 month METV first, extend 2x's to make it 9 months, do my two exits and entry's then put in for a 60 day Tourist visa and extend it 30 days to make it 90 days and then put my retirement VISA in. In other words want to spend as close to a year in Thailand before I put in fot Retirement Visa. I want to make sure that Thailand is the place. Any help would be appreciated? Thanks in Advance.

I am cancelling my work permit and non-B extension and transferring to a Non-O retirement extension. I think that is the correct terminology.

I have had 800,000 in a Thai bank savings account for many years

Does anyone happen to have a list of documents required at Changwattana to do this? Any recent experiences?

Thanks.

More OA questions:

*For the insurance, will my basic USA health care do, or needs to be a special Thai Health care plan? Would a travel insurance plan work?

*When they say multiple entry, that means I can travel to other local countries, or even back to the states if needed?

*When I apply for my second year, is there a multiple entry option so I can again still travel outside Thailand easily? Are re-entry permits a hassle?

*Will I somehow need a reporting residence address, or that will be needed when I apply for year 2?

*Will the 800k bank account requirement begin on the second year?

Thanks again!

The OA visa

* Requires no funds in Thailand but does require funds at home and health insurance at the time of applying for the visa and for entry into Thailand.

* Requires a police background check.

* It’s a multiple entry visa valid for a year.

* On each and every entry you’re stamped in for a full year (providing you have insurance for that long). If you time things right you can eek out almost two years from that visa, providing you have the required insurance. Bounce out and in just before it expires and you get a second year - albeit the second year will need re-entry permits if you leave.

Hi I entered Thailand on a tourist visa, which I then extended by 30 days as a tourist, then switched to 60 day family visa based on my daughter. Wondering if I can now apply for the 1 year family visa from inside Thailand (just got my bank account sorted) or if I need to leave, apply outside and enter again? Also whether the 400k needs to be in the bank for a certain amount of time as have read mixed info on this. Thanks!

Hi. I am currently on a 60 day tourist visa and have just got married. Can I go straight for the non o 90 day visa based on marriage instead of the 30 day extension first?

Hi, I plan to retire to Pattaya this year from the US on a retirement visa. I’ve been advised to come on a tourist visa.

I don’t want to have to leave and come back.

Question- if I have to have 800000 in a bank account for 60 days before I can apply for a retirement visa how can I do this on a 30 or 60 day visa?

Thanks for any advice.

How strict are they with the proof of funds for 2 months before application for extension based on marriage? For example I have a non o visa and have just opened a bank account and deposited 400k today. Due to Quarantine, the time it took to get an account opened and funds transferred I am concerned that When I apply for the extension it will not be a full 2 months unless I apply for the extension with only a bit over 1 week until my visa runs out... Funds deposited 25th Dec 2020, passport stamped until the 6th March 2021
