Regarding the 400K baht bank account... can the account be a shared account with my wife (myself as primary account holder)?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The account must be solely in the applicant's name to meet the 400K baht requirement for visa purposes in Thailand. A joint account is generally not accepted unless the total balance is doubled (800K baht). Certificates of deposit (CDs) cannot be used; only funds in liquid savings accounts are acceptable. However, Social Security benefits can be considered for income proof, and there are specific conditions under which the funds must be held prior to the application.

Correction - Or equal to 40,000 Baht as applies for a Non Imm O Marriage.

With social security deposits... You can have direct deposit to a limited access deposit account at Bangkok Bank (no other bank)... Or you can use an American Bank for Direct Deposit of S.S. funds - then use International Funds Transfer self initiated to any Thai Bank.. Once transferred to the Thai Bank you can count this as money equal to 65,000 Baht monthly income.. Currently you can go to the American Embassy in Bangkok and sign a Sworn Affidavit that you receive U.S. Dollar transfers to you in Thailand equal to or greater than 65,000 baht in monthly transfers.. Currently no financial proof required.

Thx 2 all. My Social Security benefits will be between 69K baht to 90K baht (depending if I retire this year or when I reach 70 in 3 years). So, assuming I receive my benefits deposited to Thailand, does this mean that I won't need to show a bank deposit?

At this time you would either use the affidavit of income from your consulate stating your monthly income OR you would bank 400K baht in the bank for 2 months before your application

There is no provision at this time to show bank deposits that equal the amount per month you need for a marriage extension.

You can use a “joint account” but Immigration will only credit 50% of the deposit to the application.

Some immigration offices allow joint accounts BUT if they do the amount in the account must be double the requirement. So for marriage you'd bank 800K baht. Their reasoning is half is yours and half is your wifes.

Also keep in mind, the fact that she'd get the money in the account if something happened to you (as a beneficiary) Is not the same as having a joint account :)

You can use a monthly income method instead - equal to 40,000 per month.

@Ric****
umm, the financial requirements based on marriage to a thai using the income from abroad method for proof of funds on an extension is 40K baht (or the equivalent) in income.

You are thinking of the financial requirements using income method for an extension based on being over 50 (retirement) which is 65K baht (or the equivalent) in income.

try 66,666 per month!

Funds in CDs are not allowed

In Thailand the funds have to be in a liquid account such as a savings account
Joe ***********
First time applicant 3 months age of the required balance. Second Application is 2 months... as Corrected to 2 months in both situations

@Tod ********
- thanks for the correction..., The OP seems to want to hang on to that CD
Tod *********
that is incorrect :/ for marriage the money must be seasoned in the account for 2 months prior to the application for extension no matter if it's your first or a subsequent one.

you are thinking of the banked money seasoning requirements for 'retirement' extensions which are 60 days for the first year and 3 months for subsequent years.

The money has to be in a liquid account in your name. A CD cannot be used. generally in Thailand Itvis just a savings account

Also, can the deposit be in the form of a CD from the bank?
Tod *********
you can use what's called a 'fixed deposit' ONLY if you can access the money (even if you get a penalty for accessing it).
