SAVANNAKHET UPDATE:

Applied for another 60 day TV yesterday but was told I needed a bank statement (20,000 bt min.). I have never been asked for a bank statement at this location before, but they may have noticed the build up of TVs in my passport and so asked for this requirement...fortunately they are giving me till Monday to show proof but they didn't ask for proof of an outward flight.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user reported they needed to provide a bank statement showing a minimum balance of 20,000 baht when applying for a 60-day TV visa in Savannakhet. This requirement was surprising since they had not been asked for it in previous applications. Comments confirm that while this has been a general requirement for a couple of years, its enforcement can vary. Additionally, there are discussions about how recent the bank statement should be and the possibility of depositing the required amount into a Thai account just before the appointment.

How recent should the bank statement or book be? I have recently updated it but will go in about 9 days. Should that be a problem?

thanks for the heads up

definitely update the book the day before you go. They're okay with it a couple days old..

It should be Ok, but you could just update it again before you go

Probably a newb question but bank statement can be recent one from Thai bank acc right? You can pretty much deposit 20k baht to your Thai bank acc and show them the next day?

@Da***
as a rule the Lao and Myanmar crossings are very lenient about asking for ANY of the proof ofz when you stamp into the country. The only myanmar border I know that sometimes asks for it is the one in Ranong. Phu Nam Ron, Mae Sai & Mae Sot never do, and I can't recall ANYONE being asked when stamping in by land from Lao.

have to love the consistency of immigration.

, I could not find one single report where someone was asked for proof of funds at the Mukdahan land border crossing.

So while technically a rule, it's totally NOT enforced there (or at Nong Khai either).

Tod curious. Has to show 20k in an account but also may have to show 20k cash at immigration. Is that correct?
Tod *********
yep, there;s no seasoning requirements for those bank statements, BUT it doesn't have to be a thai bank account you can use the bank account from your country to show proof of funds
Ron *******
And as they are not open Monday, it looks like you have until Tuesday to submit it and collect Wednesday.

I'm half expecting a stamp soon...maybe 3 months tops and I will have to go back to Australia for a while...I have a new passport less than a year old but those Laos visas next to Thai visas, not a good look.
Ron *******
Terry Tong i would suggest applying for 6 visas there, you pushing for a red stamp depending how far apart the visas are.

I've been there about 6 times now but never on a Friday....yes...never seems to be more than 50 or 60 turning up at the most at Sav.

@Terry *****
there are NEVER crowds there. If there's 40 people it's crowded.

@Terry *****
ok mate. If you have the bank statement, it should be ok.

They accepted my application, but wanted a guarantee I would bring proof so I am 99% sure I can pick it (passport) on Monday afternoon.

Correct Ron, there were about four people there when I arrived around 9.10 am and was told come back Monday...so Friday looks like the day to apply for Visas in Sav if you don't want crowds and don't mind relaxing for three or four days there...I like the town, not as expensive and as hectic as Vientiane.
Ron *******
If you submit Monday, it's going to be Wednesday to collect it.

@Terry *****
sorry my mistake. Closed Tuesday

why aren't the open on Monday. ??? TUESDAY the 19th is the Buddhist holiday

They told me to come back Monday.

Savannakhet has had the signage posted that you need a bank statement for a couple years now.

That you weren't asked was an exception because they ask just about everyone that applies there. Although I have seen them not ask some, it's pretty consistent.
