Hi I am an American, and was thinking of applying for the DTV. My intention is to live in Thailand long term (the full 5 years offered by the DTV) so I am also wondering about taxes. If I live more than 6 months in a place, I assume I am to pay taxes. And if this is not law in Thailand, it might be soon.

So I'd like to know what I can expect with in regards to taxes (tax rates) as a Freelancer with clients in the US. I will obviously have to file in the US as well. Wondering what the double taxation treaty between Thailand and USA is like. Where is it good to go for tax advice? Any general tips, resources, advice?

American citizen here. Can you apply for a 6 month METV while in Thailand? Here is my dilemma. Thinking of retiring to Thailand?, but before I plop approximately $22,000 US dollars into a Thai bank account I want to spend as close to a year in Thailand to see if it is for me. I don't know whether to get a 6 month METV first, extend 2x's to make it 9 months, do my two exits and entry's then put in for a 60 day Tourist visa and extend it 30 days to make it 90 days and then put my retirement VISA in. In other words want to spend as close to a year in Thailand before I put in fot Retirement Visa. I want to make sure that Thailand is the place. Any help would be appreciated? Thanks in Advance.

Hello all, has any Americans entered Thailand recently with the new e-visa form? I was approved and all they sent me was a digital form saying I am approved and it has a scan code at the bottom.

Is this printed form all I need to show to immigration?

I’m a Canadian with an American husband. We’re planning a 2-month stay in Thailand followed by 3 weeks in Vietnam then a return to Thailand for 3 weeks. I think as of Oct 1 we get 45 days on arrival then can easily get a 30-day extension. Is this accurate? Or are we better to get a 60-day visa in North America before leaving for Thailand? Thanks in advance for your advice.

When you enter Thailand visa exempt (American), is there a fee for each 30 day extension? I believe you can extend 2 times, for a total of 90 days, correct?

Some advice please, my situation is - I’m an American married to a Thai 4 years, I had a 1yr visa issued in the USA. Expired in January, now extended to April 15 because I just took my wife’s family to Burma as a border run. Was applying in Aranyaprathet for another 1 year, they said I needed my pension endorsed by the US Embassy. So I made appointment that is now canceled until further notice because of virus.

Other option take 400,000 bhat from US and deposit it in Thai bank. Putting a lot of money in a Thai bank makes me uneasy but it is what it is. I have to take 20,000 bhat at a time from an ATM, will not let me take out more. Fee’s are crazy to do this, close to 1 grand. Can’t transfer to my account in Thai as US bank will not let me without being present. I have a home here, car and HD motorcycle, I owe no one nothing. My pension is is 50x + what they require. I have monthly pension statement but not notarized.

Travel seems risky unless I just go home until the virus issue passes or try to cross into Cambodia but risk is they won’t let me back in.

I think the answer is I’m screwed so Fly home?

Thanks for any advice you may have.
