Routine covid extension, but learned some new stuff that could help others..

Got a 60 day unable to travel extension off of a visa exempt entry 30 day with a 30 day extension already applied. It was stamped for the full 60 days with no under consideration. MTT. Had to talk to the tm 30 people since my hotel gave me something besides the yellow screen print out. Thankfully hotel had it filed correctly online and immigration was kind enough to print the yellow one out. Had changed location from Phuket to Bkk. Better to print the yellow screen tm 30 thing for MTT

Various people around me were not so lucky. They were being told to go get an embassy letter. They said that they only approve the first 60 day without a letter and a 2nd requires an embassy letter.

That group was also very loud and immigration told them to quiet down. So it may not have helped their case. As always, best to be quiet, polite and respectful.

To my surprise the 60 days was from the date of the last extensions ended, not from the date of application.

Hi,

I’m looking to do the covid 60 day visa extension due to the uk red list update. My visa expires on the 10th September and I just called the embassy to ask for a visa extension letter but they said they don’t provide them anymore. I was just wondering if anybody has any experience applying for the covid extension visa and if a letter from the embassy was required? I have already had one 30 day extension on my visa and so I am also curious as to whether or not that may be a problem?

Thanks

Hi everyone, I’m in Thailand on a TR visa and already got a 30 day extension. Next week I wanna try my luck at BKK immigration and ask for the COVID extension. Does anyone know which counter you have to choose when you book your appointment online?

I talked to immigration on the phone today and two different officers told me that you need a letter from the embassy recommending you to stay in Thailand as the situation there would be better than back home. I emailed my embassy (German) today and asked for it. But knowing my folks I doubt they’ll do it. Has anyone gotten an extension without such letter? Cheers!

Reporting about experience at Muang Thong Thani Immigration Counter K

US citizen previously entered on Visa Exempt stamp, went on amnesty, paid extension before 26 September to 30 November, and applied for 2nd extension today.

Result: Got ‘Under Consideration’ stamp until 25 November, and was told I would be given a 60 day extension.

All usual docs that have been posted here in the group were required. HOWEVER - they DID ask for an embassy letter and were quite strict about it. Fortunately, another member posted about this in the last 1-2 days (thanks Travis!), so I e-mailed the US Embassy to request a letter (knowing I would not get one) just so that I could receive their reply stating that the US Embassy was indeed not supplying letters, should Immigration request to see it.

Not only did they ask to see this “confirmation” e-mail - they made me go to their separate building (main building, Counter J) to print it out (at 10 baht per page, black and white!). I was told that it needed to be an official print-out from my e-mail, but as the copy machine people would only accept docs through Line, I just screenshotted the e-mail and printed that out. Fortunately, it was accepted.

I was eventually given ‘Under Consideration’ until 25 November, and was told I would be given a 60 day extension.

Anyway, this is the situation at the moment, at least at MTT. I can’t speak for other nationalities, but I’d highly recommend getting an Embassy letter if you can get one - and if not, make sure to at least get an e-mail from your embassy stating that they’re not handing them out, as I did, and print that before going.

Also - I made a new, official Google Maps listing for Counter K, seeing as the “pin drop” provided by the office isn’t fairly informative (and the other maps listing someone created, “muang thong immigranten,” was also fairly undescriptive). This way you can also rate your experience there, see their operating hours, add photos, etc. The link is in the comments of the first photo, since links cannot be put in the main posts of this group.

Also - getting here is quite the escapade. I took the BTS to Mo Chit and then Grab the rest of the way (to the tune of 160 baht + 80 baht Expressway fee). And then Grab from MTT to BTS Wat Phra Sri Mahathat, which was about 140 baht, but it took 1 HOUR with traffic, only on road 304 - barely 6km! Next time I’ll probably take a moto taxi from MTT to BTS Wat Phra Sri Mahathat, to avoid the traffic. If anyone has better tips for getting to/from there please share in the comments of the first photo.

That is all! Good luck everyone.

Hi. Hope everyone is coping well and thanks for the updates these last few months.

Entered on a 30 day exempt in March with the intention of getting married, but couldn’t do that until recently because of obvious reasons. Went to Muang Thong Thani yesterday to try and get the 60 day visiting family extension (in which time I plan to season financial funds) but couldn’t as I didn’t have an Embassy letter.

I was under the impression the letters were required for 30 day extensions, but perhaps that was my mistake and it’s now all extensions.

I’ve requested the embassy letter then plan to book an appointment and return to Muang Thong Thani next week to start the process again. IYO, does that sound like the correct plan of action for myself right now? Or would I be better going to a different immigration office for the 60 day extension?

Thanks so much

Hey gang,

Would appreciate any info / experiences regarding extending the last entry stamp on a 6-month METV (multiple entry tourist visa) post-amnesty.

I arrived Feb 26 to get the last 60-day stamp before my METV expired, this was valid until end of April but by then amnesty kicked in. All along, immigration told me I would be able to extend that 60-day stamp with the usual 30-day extension which would commence from the date amnesty ends (with the normal process and no extra documentation / requirements).

However with the latest amnesty to Sept 26, they are now telling me I can only do the 30-day extension with a letter from my embassy or from a doctor. And I’ve seen this reflected in some Thai documentation and PR Thai inforgraphics on FB. And assuming that’s the case, it has been suggested I should wait until September to apply as any claim made today that I can’t fly or go back to Canada may be challenged some weeks from now (fluid situation, rationale that may be valid now might not be valid in 5 weeks). This info was received mostly from an IO in Surat Thani and from the 1178 hotline.

I am from Canada and will be hopefully hearing back tomorrow whether they will provide me / anyone with a letter from the embassy or not. So I am trying to confirm the facts / process here, and assess whether it’s likely I can do this extension or if I need to rush ahead immediately with an ED or similar visa given the tight deadline / turnaround timeframes.

Again any info is GREATLY appreciated 🙏
