I have been offered the use of GF's brother in laws spare car next time I'm in the country, not sure if I should take them up on the offer because of the insurance implications, I'm told that the car is insured but what happens if I have an accident (I'm aware that it will be my fault) ? So any advice would be appreciated.

HOW I DID MY THAI DRIVER’S LICENSE.

I went to the DLT (Dept of Land Transport) at Bangkok, Chatuchak today. Started at 8AM and got my Thai license by 3PM. Parked my car nearby outside DLT. Clinic nearby car park too and opens 7AM.

✅A quick medical check then a short walk to DLT building #4, on 1st floor inside turn right to Foreigner section, took a queue number to verify my documents. Documents passed to me and staff told me to go 2nd floor at 11am. We went behind building #4 where there’s a nice canteen for breakfast and lunch only.

✅Breakfast done, we went to 2nd floor, took a queue number and submitted my documents. Next documents passed to me and told to go 3rd floor for “physical fitness tests”.

✅At 3rd floor, go to counter, submit documents and take queue number. When they are ready, go for 4 simple tests. Colour blindness test. Depth perception test. Reflex test. Peripheral vision test.

✅Once done, go to 4th floor to wait for training video 1hr. My time slot was 1PM. Video in English.

✅After video, took back documents and went to 2nd floor to get queue number. This is the part you pay B$205 (CASH), photo taken and you get your Thai license on the spot 🥳 Happy as a bird 🦅

Documents:

-Passport copy + original.

-Visa copy.

-Your country driver’s license copy + original.

-Resident Certificate original.

-Medical fitness certificate (Valid up to 1 month). B$150 at clinic outside DLT.

Hi all,

My query relates to Drivers licenses. I have a Full Australian drivers license, if my license was cancelled or suspended can I apply for a Thai driver’s license by taking driving lessons and a driving test to the satisfaction of the examiner in Thailand and then be issued a new Thai drivers license ?

Thank you in advance for any advice

Hello everyone. I need the copy of my Irish driving license certified by an Irish Embassy. Do I need it translated to Thai in order to converting to Thai driving license (original driving license is in English)?

*Update*

Thank you everyone. I do appreciate all of your advices. I contacted the local DLT office in my area in Khonkaen (again) to tell them that many foreigners that I know (kinda 😁) didn’t have their driving licenses translated to Thai if it’s in English. They still insisted us (me and my American fiancé) having our driving licenses certified and translated.

It’s the hassle to go to the Embassy in Bangkok to get our driving license certified. We decided to make an appointment with DLT for driving theory exam and driving test. Hopefully, it goes well🤞. Wish us luck!
