I am an Indian passport holder, who works for a US company and currently waiting for my US visa renewal (don't know how many months it will take for that to go through).

Meanwhile, I am planning to get Thai DTV visa, so I can live and work from Thailand.

I am going to be in Vietnam for 2 months starting January and would like to apply for Thai DTV visa from there. For those who have gone through the process in Vietnam, would really appreciate if you can help answer these questions...

1. At any point during the visa process, do you have to visit the Thai embassy/consulate in Hanoi or HCMC?

2. Does it matter if I apply via Hanoi or HCMC?

3. I will be in HCMC first, then go to Da Nang and finally to Hanoi. I can spend 2-4 weeks in each city if needed. If I apply for DTV while in HCMC, and then move to Da Nang after a week, will it be an issue for DTV processing? This assumes that DTV is still in process after a week.

4. Similarly, if I apply for DTV while in Da Nang, but then move to Hanoi, will be in an issue for DTV processing?

My DTV application was unexpectedly rejected today (6 Nov at 11:54 a.m.) with HCM, Vietnam

Timeline:

• 27 Oct: Submitted application (7:10 p.m.)

• 28 Oct: Further info requested → submitted same day

• 4 Nov: Emailed consulate (visa expiring 9 Nov); later that day status changed from Document Check → Pending Approval

• 6 Nov, 7am: Emailed again early morning (tomorrow is the last working day before my visa expiry)

• 6 Nov, 11:54 a.m.: Received rejection

I’m an immigration advisor of NZ, working for a Chinese company, and I included:

• 6 months of payslips, bank statements, tax records, employment letter, the company registration and my license certificate.

• A NZ term deposit of over 1 million THB

• Stayed at Da Nang: boarding pass, hotel bills, visa and visa stamp.

Everything seemed straightforward, so I’m shocked by the refusal.

I can think of three possible reasons for the refusal, but I’d be interested to hear other views:

1. HCM may regard me as able to work locally since I can provide consultations to both Thai nationals and foreigners in Thailand, while the DTV prohibits me from working in Thailand. However, all clients of the company are from mainland China, which is not specifically mentioned in the application. Should I clarify that I am aware of Thai law and will not conduct any local work?

2. I hold both Chinese and New Zealand citizenships, but I applied under my Chinese passport (as only my Chinese health insurance covers me due to my medical conditions). This is not something I can change.

3. I used a New Zealand term deposit instead of a savings account, which might be seen as funds not immediately accessible. Should I instead provide proof of a regular savings account?

Has anyone experienced something similar or know what might have triggered this?

Can anyone share how long did it take to get DTV visa as workation (freelancer) in HCMC? It takes quite longer than I thought...

Applied on August 11th at 2:00am

Turned out to be pending approval on August 13th

Still so far nothing has changed.

I already know that August 11th and 12th were Thai national holidays and they don't work on weekends, but still almost 7 business days have been passed while on HCMC official consulate website says general processing time is 4~6 days. Trying to be patient but the fact that I even needed to cancel my flight ticket that supposed to leave two days ago just makes me frustrated..

Does anyone have anecdotal stories/experience of how long you have to send in documents after request for additional documents?

I'm doing the soft-power and am requesting documents from medical provider (Chiang Mai Ram in this case) and they told me will be atleast 7 business days.

I read someone said needs to finish within 90 days after paying fee but I'd like to clarify in case then I can send what I already have, which is not as detailed.

(This is applied at the Vietnam HCMC Consulate)

Husband got DTV today after almost six working days. Applied in Vietnam. Probably would be shorter process if you could upload everything at once, but they asked for documents separately so we just gave them only what they needed. Tonight we're doing my tag along DTV.

DTV Visa approved via hanoi.

I applied based on soft power. Made a dentist appointment at Bangkok Hospital. Booked an appointment at Hanoi consulate، submit my application on Thursday and got my visa today. Here in hanoi take 3 working days not include the day you submit your application.

Good luck to you all.

Hello everyone!! I am applying for a DTV visa in the HCMC embassy or Hanoi consulate and would like to ask for some kind advice from you regarding my situation. I have my questions listed at the end of the post.

(This may be too long but I would really appreciate every comment as I tried to consult the agency before and they tried to raise up the price from 30K to 55K baht in two weeks. I’m stunned)

ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ

>Background (can skip this part when reading and come back for references)

⁃ I worked in Thailand as a salesperson from 2022 to early 2023 with a NON-B visa and a work permit. I quitted the job in the early 2023 and changed to 6-month Muay Thai visa, training Muay Thai.

⁃ After my Muay Thai visa ended in October 2023, I flew to visit home for a few months. I started working remotely as a salesperson at a company from the other country that is not Thailand and my home country in November 2023. The contract stated that my location was in Thailand, because I was renting a condo in Bangkok (The rental Contract is Aug2023-Aug2024) and did not want to get taxed in my home country. I usually receive my salary through WISE.

⁃ I came back to Thailand in January 2024 and proceeded to get an ED education visa. I had been working remotely with the ED visa until July 2024 as I took a career break. I am now applying for new jobs and will get one shortly.

ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ

>I am planning to apply at the HCMC embassy or Hanoi consulate at the end of this month.

Other than photos, passport copies and visa application form, my current documents include:

⁃ Cover Letter and CV: introducing myself, what I do

⁃ 7-month Bank Statement(Issued by the bank in my home country): amount equivalent to 500K baht (500K baht has been in my bank for half a month, not very much transaction going on this account either as I receive my salary through WISE and I have other Thai bank account opened since 2022)

⁃ Work Contract from November 2023

⁃ Rental Agreements in Thailand [One appeared in my work contract (Aug 2023-Aug 2024) and one I am residing now (July 2024-July 2025)

⁃ hotel booking in vietnam

ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ

>My questions include:

1. Are the HCMC embassy and Hanoi Consulate good choices or are there any more recommendable embassies or consulates?

2. Must the 500K baht equivalent be in the account for certain number of months for the HCMC embassy and Hanoi Consulate?

3. Rental Agreements (?): Should I attach any of them?

4. Pay slips (?): I would not attach them in the first place. Should the embassy later require it, I can attach my WISE pay slips but they will only show from Nov 2023 – July 2024. I will attach a letter explaining that I am taking an unpaid leave from July 2024-Now. Do you guys think this is a good idea or should I include this information that I am on an unpaid leave now since in the cover letter? Any advice please?

5. Bank Statement: Should I also attach a bank statement from a Thai bank? Many transactions in there were transferred from my WISE account, which I usually receive salary from.

6. Bank Guarantee (?): Should I request for one and attach it?

7. Tax Return (?) : I would not attach them in the first place. Should the embassy later require it, I can attach it but it will show that my salary has not been taxed.

8. Do you think it is a good idea to apply for the DTV visa now or should I wait until I can get a new job, and I can ask the company to issue me the letter guaranteeing that I am working remotely with them? Because now I only have work contract and I’m a bit panicked.

9. Should there be any more documents I can attach please?

ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ

Thank you so much for your contribution! Have a nice day 😊
