TLDR : Answer Summary
Recent experiences shared indicate that the Thai consulate in Ho Chi Minh City now requires an online appointment for visa applications. The document requirements remain similar to pre-COVID, especially for the NON-O visa, which is based on marriage, with a fee of around 200 USD. Applicants must provide a letter from their Thai spouse, various identification documents, and ensure correct copies are submitted. Post-COVID, applicants are facing longer processing times and are advised to apply well in advance.
NON-O RETIREMENT VISA RESOURCES / SERVICES
  • Go to the Retirement Visa Section for information on requirements, including age restrictions, financial requirements, and necessary documentation.
  • For immediate assistance, contact Thai Visa Centre directly via LINE at @ThaiVisaCentre or Email them.
  • Explore recent discussions by using the Non-O Retirement Visa tag in the search box at the top of the page.

I think I totally screwed up with the new process. The days where you could show up in person and take your passport with the single visa the new day at the Consulate are over it seems. You need to book 2 weeks in advance in Ho Chi Minh. I did the e-visa process but again it seems you need to wait quite a long time. I did it 5 days before my flight. But I probably will go to Thailand on a visa exemption and extend there as I might not get that bloody e-visa in time.

, It appears it's more of a you didn't do your research BEFORE you started down the "get a visa" route.

You are right post covid things have changed, but there is ample info on the inter-web about the changes.

The thai consulate at Savannakhet is a walk up consulate, apply one day in the morning, get the passport back the next day in the afternoon.

And the eVisa site says it can take 5 to 15 days to get approved and there was no reason to wait until close to your flight to apply for the visa, the shortest validity of any visa sold (tourist or single entry Non-Imm) is 3 months from the date it's issued <- meaning there's no down side to applying early

go to Savannakhet Lao and get the visa then, that's a walk up consulate with no booking required, you need the same documentation and the year/multi is 5000 baht

if you go get one can you take time to let the group know how it went, if there were any 'hiccups' etc? there just aren't a lot of good solid reports from people who've done it because most people are still taking covid extensions 😮

What visa are you applying for? The year/multi Non-O based on marriage is the same as it was before 200USD, same documents, no proof of funds, etc

CHECK the website to see the requirements, you still need to have a written letter from your thai wife asking that consulate to issue you a visa (can be short and hand written), her thai id, her house book, the marriage documents, your passport, the correct copies, and the form .

@Tod ********
No proof of funds for the marriage visa?

@Jack *********
HCMC and Savannakhet have NEVER required proof of funds for Non-O visas based on marriage or for raising thai children.
