I will be in Vietnam and looking to get a 60 day tourist visa that I will then extend for a total of 90 days. I plan to be in Da Nang, but could do HCMC or Hanoi if I had to.

Are any preferable over the others?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking advice on where to obtain a 60-day Thai tourist visa and considering extending it to 90 days while in Vietnam. Comments indicate that Da Nang does not have a Thai consulate, suggesting HCMC or Hanoi as preferable alternatives. Additionally, information about required documentation for the visa application process is mentioned.

You can get a tourist visa from the thai consulates in HCMC or Hanoi. You need proof of onward travel, proof of 20K baht or the equivalent in a bank account and they can ask for proof of lodging too.

Remember they ONLY take US dollars for the thai visas at the consulates there.

they used to be quiet easy going about it, BUT now I don't think anyone can predict what they will do.

I mean if they think you're living here on back-2-back tourist visas they could deny you.

You just have to go and try them.

There is not Thai consulate in Da Nang. You had better to ask in another group about travel tips where you go....
