Hi everyone, I’m planning to apply for the DTV Destination Thailand Visa, which lasts for 5 years. However, my passport is expiring in March 2026, so it doesn’t cover the full duration of the visa. Will this cause my application to be rejected? Should I renew my passport before applying, or can I use my old visa with the new passport if I renew it later? Any advice from those who’ve been in a similar situation would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

DTV Visa was just issued from RTE in Berlin, Germany.

-

What I submitted:

- Biometric Passport Picture

- Copy of both sides of German ID card (“Personalausweis”) with “home” address on it (for proof of location)

- A letter written by myself as owner and director of a company registered in Germany that I am the sole / 100% shareholder of, confirming that I am free to work remotely from everywhere including Thailand and that I have access to company funds exceeding 500k THB + copy of company registration papers (“Handelsregisterauszug” + “Gewerbeanmeldung”).

- One / a most recent bank statement of one of my savings accounts in my personal name with an opening and closing sum in EUR exceeding 500k THB – with all other individual transactions and bank account numbers etc. redacted / black-inked.

-

What I was asked to re-submit:

- A different biometric picture (the first one I uploaded didn’t seem good enough for them, even though the system initially said it was and even though I thought it was just as good as what I have always used before).

- The copy of my German ID card in a color instead of a grayscale scan (even though that same grayscale scan always worked for them before).

-

How long did it take?

After 9 working days, they requested the two changed uploads. Today, after 13 working days the visa was issued – on the day I told them in the form that I would fly to Thailand. Initially, I would have already been in the air to Thailand by now – but had to postpone this flight for different reasons anyways.

-

What to note?

The passport I used expires on a date a few months before the end date of the DTV validity. They noted that in Thai in a Remarks section of the visa. So, I assume, that transferring this visa to a new passport might be tricky – remains to be seen. But even if I will have lost a few months off of it in the end, still a good deal for now. Might switch to LTR soon anyways – depending on taxation and other developments.

Hope this information helps others planning to get the DTV from a Thai consulate in Germany, especially the Thai embassy in Berlin. Have a great day everyone.

Hi. My passport expires on May 29th 2025. A new Non OA extension would expire on June 20th 2025. Will immigration issue the extension and then swap to new passport when issued please?

I'd be grateful for reassurance and advice from those with greater wisdom and experience.

I applied for the Elite visa, but I'm a bit confused about the following:

1. Cancellation of my non-immigrant O (Thai husband) visa. Is the process: Cancel in my province, then go to BKK to get the Elite visa, or go to BKK, then cancel? Or it could be: Make the Elite visa appointment, then cancel, then go to BKK. (The wording of the terms is a bit ambiguous and contradictory on this point.)

2. I have only about 2.5 years remaining on my current passport, is it easy to transfer the remaining 2.5 years into a new passport? (Again, the terms are not 100% clear on this.)

3. I'm seeking a divorce and want to change back to my maiden name in my next passport. Anyone have any experience with this?

I'm also hoping my local immigration office will not inform my husband about the Elite visa application.

What a long post. Thanks for your patience and thanks in advance for your help!
