What are the steps for cancelling a non-immigrant O visa and applying for the Thailand Elite visa?

I'd be grateful for reassurance and advice from those with greater wisdom and experience.

I applied for the Elite visa, but I'm a bit confused about the following:

1. Cancellation of my non-immigrant O (Thai husband) visa. Is the process: Cancel in my province, then go to BKK to get the Elite visa, or go to BKK, then cancel? Or it could be: Make the Elite visa appointment, then cancel, then go to BKK. (The wording of the terms is a bit ambiguous and contradictory on this point.)

2. I have only about 2.5 years remaining on my current passport, is it easy to transfer the remaining 2.5 years into a new passport? (Again, the terms are not 100% clear on this.)

3. I'm seeking a divorce and want to change back to my maiden name in my next passport. Anyone have any experience with this?

I'm also hoping my local immigration office will not inform my husband about the Elite visa application.

What a long post. Thanks for your patience and thanks in advance for your help!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking advice on the cancellation of their non-immigrant O visa while applying for the Thailand Elite visa. They are confused about whether to cancel their current visa before or after obtaining the Elite visa and about transferring their existing visa to a new passport with a name change. The community offers varying opinions, including advice to keep the old visa active until the Elite visa is approved, and suggestions for direct communication with the Thailand Elite office for clarity.

I would definitely make a trip down to the elite office show them your extension and have them talk to your local immigration office BEFORE you cancel your current extension.

even if you can't get a new passport BEFORE you go get the elite visa sticker stuck in, you will be able to get a new sticker put into your new passport because the Elite visa is one of the few VISA stickers they actually move inside thailand at the immigration office.

Get the elite visa in your old passport, when you get the new passport get the letter from your consulate stating you got a new passport inside thailand take both passports to the bangkok immigration office and they will move the stamps AND put a new Elite visa sticker in the new passport with the same expiration date

-2 when I renewed my passport my visa was in my old passport . I showed both passports at border control no problem. Also if you renew your passport in Thailand they will give you a letter to transfer your visa into your new passport at immigration . I didn’t bother I just showed old passport with current visa and new passport to get the stamp.

why spending so much whilevif ur 50 an agent can get you the same visa gor 25k Baht ... i am confuse ...

you're more than confused. There's no agent in the country that can get you a 5 year, unlimited entry, fast track immigration, 24 pu/delivery to the airport, free 90 day reporting VISA

Perhaps you can't afford the elite visa, OR perhaps you can but you use anagency to get you a visa under the table by illegal means from a different province.

What ever the reason, I think you don't have the slightest ideal what you're talking about
Jonathan *******
Yeah, why are you asking questions here when you're paying a lot of money for a new visa?

If you're paying all that cash, and you still have questions then it's probably not a safe transaction

Thailand Elite will do it for you when you go to Bangkok for your stamp.

For 1,sorry i can’t help, wasn’t my case with thai husband but foreigner

for 2,yes easy to remain it on new passport and change your name in the same time,i did it easily.

They assist you for everything, better to ask them for number 1.

3,no reason from immigration to say it to ex,except if he knows somebody there, you know how it works there...

Mp if you need.

Jane you don't need to go to any agency. Thailand elite have a helpful helpline in English that will guide you through it. You may have to go to your local immigration to cancel your current visa but ask them. Changing your passport can be done on Elite but ask them about changing your name. They transfer your elite visa over into your new passport in Bangkok. You don't need need any other services. TE has a great English speaking helpline

Thanks again, Bim for all your advice, I agree that I don't need an agent, same with the divorce process. 🙏

I used Bangkok Buddy for my Elite Visa. The owner is very helpful and speaks English well. Same cost as doing it yourself too
Tod *********
Brandon Robinson just so you know

Bangkok Buddy is just someone who brokers with a REAL agent that can sell Elite visas (and they take a cut too)

You can deal with the Elite company direct and not have to deal with any middle men.

Whatever you do don't cancel your O visa 'til you have your elite visa.

Thanks, William, that's exactly what I'm thinking, despite the terms indicating the contrary. However, it sounds like coming in on a tourist visa could be more simple.
