Update DTV South Africa: The short of it is they still do not have any information about the DTV, cost or procedures and asked to follow up mid August.
You cannot go to the Pretoria Embassy in person anyway they won't let you in. I had to speak to an officer over the phone. She said it'll be likely that the DTV application will be done via a courier service. The VFS agent knows nothing about the DTV either.
I would like to share my experience with application for DTV in Taipei based on workcation. Im employed by my own company back in EU.
Whole application took exactly 5 working days. I honestly expected it to be faster (based on previous reviews) but cannot complain :) I was on holiday anyway.
In the past I was on Non-O marriage visa but since they cancelled multiple entry option last year I had to find some new solution and DTV seemed like the best option. Im rarely in Thailand more than 90 days in a row so 1 year extension of Non-O visa based on marriage would be complicated for me(waiting period etc...).
Applied on 17.2.2025 in the morning with these documents:
* Cover letter (with reasons why I apply and overview of documents that I provided)
* Employment contract
* Remote work confirmation letter (allowing myself to work from Thailand)
* Overview of my work tasks (simple PDF with screenshots of my daily work and comments)
* Extract from business register about my company (date of incorporation, identification number etc...)
* Personal bank statements with more than 500 000 THB (deposited 3 months ago) and with highlighted salary income (6 months)
* Payslips (6 months)
* Accomodation confirmation letter from my wife (letter, copy of ID and Tabien Baan) that she allow me to stay with her in Thailand :)
* Certificate of entry an exit dates from National Immigration Agency in Taipei as a proof of current location
* Booking confirmation for accomodation in Taiwan (the embassy staff didnt care about this since they have certificate of entry a exit dates)
* Ticket to Thailand
* Ticket to back to EU in 6 weeks

3 hours after I sent my application the status switched from Pending document check to Pending approval
On 18.2.2025 in the evening I received an interview request on 21.2.2025
Interview was honestly not that bad. I was asked why I apply in Taiwan and not back in my coutry. Why Im not applying for Non-O visa and then some questions about my work and life. The embassy staff was friendly but strict at the same time :) In and out within 20 mins.
3 hours after my interview I received approval. I hope this helps you somehow.
Just entered Thailand on my DTV from Manchester. Online full check in was not available, I could pick my seat but it instructed me to go to the desk for boarding passes, even the little machines before the desk would not allow it. The girl on check in hadn’t seen the dtv before but she just typed in the visa number and it was not an issue.
On arrival in Phuket my passport was stamped for 180 days, but after me asking the immigration officer said I have to report to the immigration office at 90 days.
It’s not a problem doing that but if people are coming for the first time they may not be aware of the 90 day reporting
I just received my 5 year DTV visa as a freelancer / digital nomad from the Washington DC consul.
The whole process took 15 days. I suggest you plan on applying a full month in advance of your trip in case there are delays.
I found the website a little tricky to navigate. The docs upload must be in the correct format and you can only upload one doc at a time for the work verification. Since I had a lot of docs, I ultimately had to edit my entire resume into one JPG under 3 mb in size. I have heard there are apps that will compress files so that you can combine several docs, but that solution didnt work for me.
I had sufficient funds in my account.
After I submitted the application and paid, there was a delay of 2 weeks with no notification.
They finally requested a copy of my current IRS tax return.
After I sent this they granted the visa immediately. I would advise that when filling out your application that you answer the question about your yearly income truthfully in case they come back later and ask for tax records.
All in all, the process was pretty straightforward.
I called the DC office and they picked up quickly and were helpful.
My advice: Keep your documetation concise. They are busy so give them what they require but make it simple.
Give yourself sufficient time for the process.
Remember, they aren’t offering this visa to keep you out.
Thank you Tod Daniels and the TVA moderators for your help.
The thai visa experience is sometimes a study in burecratic innefficiency and this current overhaul was long overdue.
