So I'm trying to decide between the DTV and the Retirement visa since I just turned 50. I have enough in savings to meet both the requirements for those two visas. The main drawback for the DTV is that I am a freelance video editor but have hardly any income from it right now. I do have about $1000 per month in rental income from my family but it's not in my name (another problem).

The retirement visa seems much more complicated than the DTV and since I'm still a freelancer that is my preferred visa. But seeing as my freelance income is almost nothing right now the savings won't be enough on it's own right now right?

The other option is soft power for the DTV which I'm also researching. Any advice is much appreciated, thanks!

EDIT: Thanks for the replies/advice. From all the responses it definitely looks like the best route is to apply for the Non-O from where I'm at now (US-San Francisco).

Hello,

I'm asking for some advice.

(The anxiety is kicking in.)

I will be travelling from the UK on the 9th July to Vientiane, loa. Then I'll be entering Thailand in the next few days.

The problem is that I'm flying through Bahrain and China on SELF TRANSFER / both airports (collecting my luggage and re-checking it on my onward flightS.

Do I need a visa for travelling through Bahrain and China now.

thank you in advance.

Hello!

Do you know any bank in Chiang Mai DTV visa holder can open the bank account?

Here's our story of approval DTV visa.

I hope this helps someone.

▼me and my husband

Nationality: Japanese

Type: DTV soft power Muay Thai

Place to apply: Bali, Indonesia

【for my case.】

・3th June 13:00: Submitted visa application

・13th June 10:00: Requested additional

document such as

1. entry stamp or stay permit from Indonesian Immigration.

2.Financial evidence: an amount of no less than 500,000 THB in English ( because I only submitted my Internet bank account screen shot in Japanese)

・13th June 16:00: Additonal document submitted

・13th June 22:00: Approved

【For my husband】

・May : He applied for a dtv visa in Japan in May, but the visa he was approved for was a 6-month tourist visa, not a dtv visa.

・3th June 13:00: Submitted visa application for 2nd time.

・13th June 10:00: Requested additional

document such as

1. entry stamp or stay permit from Indonesian Immigration.

2.Shcool document( He even submitted but did it again)

・13th June 16:00: Additonal document submitted

・15th June 22:00: Send email to Thai embassy of Indonesia about his situation

・16th June :

They answered him

✉️he must cancel that tourist visa first. It may take few days.

・17th June : Approved

(They responded quickly and his visa was approved! Thank you😊)

Hi everyone,

For those who’ve applied for workcation recently, could I ask a quick question about the supporting documents?

Did you include a cover letter, a portfolio letter, and a financial letter, or is that too much? Are all three necessary, or is there anything else I should include to be safe?

Also, for the 500K financial proof, is it okay to submit both a bank statement and a screenshot showing the balance from my mobile banking app? Just want to make sure that combination is acceptable.

Thanks so much in advance for your help!

Do denials of entry (because of too many tourist visas or visa exempt entries) seem to happen more often at airports than at land borders?

I am wondering if it's better to fly to a nearby country like Malaysia and enter Thailand overland instead of flying directly into Thailand.

Even though I haven't been in Thailand for 1.5 years now, I have entered visa exempt quite a few times in the years before that and am worried about being forced to fly back home, since I read about so many people being denied entry recently (especially at airports?).

Just posting what happened with us for reference. Arrived end of April (US passport) for first time ever in Thailand planning to stay 90 days. After 60 days, we elected not to file an extension as we wanted to spend a week in Cambodia before returning for a month. We left on time, had a blast in Cambodia.

When we arrived back tonight (BKK) we caught the lecture about this being the last time we would be allowed in for a year. He said the rules had changed and he could only give us 45 days. He said from now on foreigners can only stay a total of 90 days per year. Fine with us we are leaving before then. After a 15 minute back and forth we were allowed to enter. I checked as I exited airport; he stamped 60 days.

Yea, yea, I know that’s not the “rules” or whatever. Just letting people on the every 3 month visa run know they are indeed cracking down if I can catch a lecture for my 2nd entrance ever.

A couple of questions someone here could hopefully help with.

1) If I apply based on soft power, am I allowed to work remotely? If not, would you need to exit Thailand, go to an embassy and apply for a new DTV based on workcation?

2) For soft power, e.g. muay thai classes, do you need to have proof of being enrolled in a new class if entering via airport after the first course has ended?

Sorry I tried searching this group but was not able to find answers to these questions. Thank you.
