You mean when you land in Thailand? Theoretically you need 3 proofs (20k baht, accommodation and onward ticket). In practice it's rare that they ask, especially if this is your first METV. However, they can ask and if you don't have and of the 3 proofs they can deny you entry

people don't do it in Bangkok because it's not necessary and presumably they don't want to waste a day of their lives at Chaeng Wattana just to push unnecessary paper

makes a good point. I had my entire identity stolen (including credit cards, passport and everything) because it was saved on a website (Not fb). Hiding your identity is nothing to do with following the rules in Thailand (Or anywhere else), it's about protecting your privacy.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but isn't it the case that the immigration officer has to manually search for that info if s/he is suspicious. In other words, if they quickly flip through a passport, see that it's not full of stamps, they are much less likely to go and manually search the user's (or alien's, to use immigration speak) entry history?

If you have an METV and you border bounce you will be stamped in for 60 days....
Liam *****
If you have a valid METV no. You will be stamped in for 60 days on an METV

Yeah, most areas outside Bangkok are (and increasingly so). Would be pretty difficult to enforce in Bangkok though, considering there are something like 500,000 foreigners living here!

Yeah, no one does it in Bangkok. Though the rule says you have to inform them whenever you leave the district, in practice there is no way for them to know if you have been to Bangkok or not, and thus no need to do it

Yeah... get a tourist visa (noting the requirements of the embassy in KL, discussed at length elsewhere)
