I live in Chiang Mai. A friend in BKK is travelling out of the country and invited me to enjoy his appartment there for two weeks.

As he will not be in Thailand while I will arrive to his place, he will not be able to apply the TM30 for me. Is there another way for applying TM30 for this situation?

Thanks!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user seeks advice on applying for the TM30 registration while staying at a friend's apartment in Bangkok, as the friend is out of the country and unable to register them. Comments suggest that in practice, TM30 enforcement is lax in Bangkok, and it may not be necessary to register, given the regulatory environment. Suggestions include obtaining a power of attorney for registration purposes, though many expats have reported that the rule is often not enforced in Bangkok.

This seems to be a popular discussion, anyone know if Krabi immigration is strict or not?

If you arrive first time you have to report, on return of travel within Thailand no problem. Not sure of return of abroad.

On the remote chance of being asked my answer would be "I arrived today."

Chumphon Provence doesn’t care either.

Making the TM30 is depending on the Immigration Office in the area where you stay. Bangkok does not care at all, so just go, stay there and enjoy your stay.

He could always sign a power of attorney form and leave copies of the relevant paperwork for you in the apartment!

As many people say Bkk may not care

Perhaps if you do not do this, who will know that you have left Chiang Mai?

Yeah, most areas outside Bangkok are (and increasingly so). Would be pretty difficult to enforce in Bangkok though, considering there are something like 500,000 foreigners living here!

I know Jomtien are pretty strict.

When I went to Koh Samet for a few days the hotel never even asked for my passport so I never re registered when I came back, a stroke of luck there!

Yeah, no one does it in Bangkok. Though the rule says you have to inform them whenever you leave the district, in practice there is no way for them to know if you have been to Bangkok or not, and thus no need to do it

Good question

Allegedly you are supposed to report when you travel out of the district. A regulation honoured more in the breach than the observance.

You don't need to do TM30 in Bangkok
