Buy the 5 years to give yourself the best chance of coming to Thailand anytime soon. During that period one of the natives will probably brainwash you into marriage, maybe also fatherhood, so you can extend on that basis thereafter. If not, you could buy another 5 years or study Thai part-time and obtain an education visa.

it's very simple really. if you plan to work to support your family you can find a job here and obtain a visa and work permit through your employer. if you need to study more before working, you can stay on with an education visa. if you or your partner are well off enough that you wont be working anytime in the next few years, you can buy an elite visa.

although in reality given the lack of information shared and if i remember rightly that he admitted he had to pull some strings to extend his visa last year, it could well just be that he doesn't qualify for a visa extension. simple.

in that metaphor, he's not been abused. his partner has threatened to separate. and some of us are suggesting that could be because he keeps moaning about every tiny detail of his partner's behaviour and sharing all his relationship problems in social media.

Seems odd that he described it as a "visa"

He seems like a nice guy with amazing knowledge of Thailand. I can't understand why he's always so desperate to make a huge fuss over tiny things like the TM30 penalty fines or tourists paying a few baht more to enter national parks. Hope he finds a way to stay but wouldn't be surprised if he has to go.

the question is whether the late reporting fines will start again on 1 september (as suggested by tod daniels and also the infographic above shared by stephan) or on the same day as the overstay amnesty ends (as suggested by the immigration officers to both of us). right now my plan is to head to muang thong thani before the end of august just in case.
