TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around the challenges of applying for a marriage visa in Thailand without having the required 400,000 baht in a bank account. Several commenters emphasize that there are no legal alternatives to bypass this financial requirement. Some suggest using agents who can assist with the process, although this may involve questionable practices. Others highlight the importance of demonstrating a stable income of at least 40,000 baht per month instead. There are suggestions about seeking financial assistance from the spouse's family to meet the requirement.

As it does not matter where the money comes from, ask your wife's family if they can loan you the bt400k needed for the three months it must be in the bank. If her family actually cares about you and her, and trusts you, they will do it, if they can. I do know people that have done this very thing to get their extension based on marriage.
Paul ********
@Kool ******
are you sure you don’t need to show it coming in from outside Thailand ? Because they don’t want people to work here and put money in bank they need to see an outside source of income
Kool *******
@Paul *******
, the bt40k a month has to come in from out of the country, but they do not care where the bt400k in your bank account came from. Like I said, I personally know people that have done this very thing.

Over 50 - use an agency for a Retirement extension.
Peter *******
@John *******
. Why do that,when you can use the Immigration,s one stop service,and provided you have all the necessary documents,the process should not take more than
*****
minutes, depending on how many people are waiting to be seen.

@Peter ******
Can U read - he DOES NOT HAVE all the necessary documents + cash nexessary... Focus man...

Lawyers used to help, but now you have to show TOTAL income of 400,000 per annum . Can be a mix of income plus a deposit. But you have to show 12 months bank statements.
Kool *******
@Peter ********
, not any more. It now must be either bt400k in the bank for at least 2 months for the first extension, or bt40k minimum a month coming in from out of the country. There is no longer a combination of both, and there is no longer an averaging of income that totals bt400k for the year. It must be bt40k a month minimum. This all changed two years ago, and went into full effect last year. Going back to years past, you used to be able to include the value of a condo you owned in the financial requirement. That was nice then, as it encouraged expats to buy condos, but that ended years ago.

Most of the "we put the money in for you" agents in bangkok charge about 50K to get you an in country 90 day Non-O visa based on marriage AND then the year extension after that.

It's because they have to keep the money in your bank account thru that process.

Google "marriage visa thailand" and I'm sure you'll find plenty of agencies that come up ;)
Bim *******
@Tod ********
yes had one friend do that and cost him 45k
Napalak **********
You can do it in Phuket for an extra fee
James ******
Go Thai embassy in Cambodia (they Issan, can’t remember the name of town/city) little kickback of cash and they’ll do it for you. No 400k required
Tod *********
you're a little off on that story there
@Ja***
:/ The thai consulate in Savannakhet Lao (NOT Cambodia) ALWAYS issued a year-long, multi entry Non-O visa based on marriage without proof of funds for 5000baht.

No "kickback" needed ;)

BUT

with the entry points to thailand closed, AND you needing to do a 14 day quarantine in lao to get in, THEN apply for permission to get back into thailand going to ANY thai consulate outside the country to get a visa and thinking you're gonna get in anytime soon is just fanciful thinking..

@Tod ********
just relaying what a friend told me, he’s done it many times but I guess the covid bs hinders it.

Apologies for wrong location, was a while back and was just trying to go my memory. lol
Tod *********
And all I'm doing
@Ja***
is telling you that it used to be the go to place to get that visa type without proof of funds and they didn't take kickbacks

BUT

you're not gonna get it there now

I hear ya. Thx

if i have passive income of 60 k can i apply for any long term visa ??
Oliver ********
if it's really passive income (i.e. just investment return without any work involved on your part) the value of your capital to achieve that level of income without meaningful risk nor volatility would be substantial, in which case you could easily afford an elite visa.

if it's not really passive income (i.e. requires some management or involvement on your part, you will need a work permit, and a non-immigrant business visa, which also comes with various other requirements).
Adam ******
@Oliver *******
its passive income but only equivalent of 60 k thb , still is possibility to apply for long term visa ?? and what are the costs ?
Oliver ********
@Adam *****
elite visa is 500k thb for 5 years. to have a stable passive income of 60k thb/month purely from investment you must have well over 20mil thb of assets so that should be easily affordable for you.
Adam ******
@Oliver *******
i have just 60 k monthly income in that case is any other option ??
Oliver ********
@Adam *****
sounds like you are still working so you will need a work permit and non-immigrant business visa (which will also mean setting up or operating through a thai based company)
Adam ******
@Oliver *******
its sound like I working but i have passive income and want to relocate to Thailand
Oliver ********
@Adam *****
in that case maybe you could find a temporary job wherever you are now and live off the salary from that so you can save all of your "passive" income to buy an elite visa. it wouldn't take long.

60k ... what currency?

Want to do the same thing.. marry a thai girl. But i will bring her to Finland. That is waay cheaper than the stupid 400k rule! Im not rich. Only have a small pension of 800 euros a month.

Have to go whit agency it’s the only way
Sean ******************
@Sylvain *****
how would an agency help? What would they do about the rules?
Garrett ***********
@Se**
"Agents" usually have connections with a bank manager at a local bank. They will deposit 400k baht in an account with your name, then have the bank manager falsify a record showing the amount of time it was in your account. Then they take their money back.
Sean ******************
@Garrett **********
ahh. That makes sense. Thank you for the honest explanation.
Sylvain ******
@Sean *****************
my friend went from retired visa 3 months to Thai wife visa 1 year whit Thai visa agency and he had no problems at all cost him around 35 k baths for everything look them up

Garrett ***********
No. There is no way around the financial requirement.
Canice ******
400k in bank or 40k income.
Ian *********
Mogens Nygaard the remaining 9 months has to be min 400k Upto the point of renewal at the end of year 1
Luciano ***********
Can that income be from rental property investments ?
Canice ******
@Luciano **********
Check with your province immigration. From what my side province told me is can be pension or income from work.
Luciano ***********
@Canice *****
ok thank you
Tod *********
@Luciano **********
IF you are using monthly income you either legally work here on a work permit (when you can use domestically deposited money) OR you transfer in to a thai bank account in your name only the minimum required every month from overseas each month, every month for the previous 12 months.
Luciano ***********
@Tod ********
so if i transfer from Australia Minimum 40,000 baht a month that makes me eligible for a retirment visa ?
Tony ******
@Luciano **********
65 k for retirement visa 40 k marriage visa
Tod *********
@Luciano **********
nope, retirement is 65K baht a month each month every month for the previous 12 months
Luciano ***********
@Tod ********
Is the other option 800,000 baht in a bank account for all the time i am in thailand or just when i apply for a visa ?
Daniel ************
you might using an agent 😉
