Remember that, Thai or not, if you go for a month, you'll not see your family for the 1st 2 weeks.

Personally, I'd leave it 6 months at least.

this is not true. I opened 2 bangkok bank accounts whilst on 30 day visa exemptions. No embassy letters.

Every office interprets the regulations differently, so check with your local immigration office. For myself, I'd rather take a dozen copies that aren't needed than end up scrabbling round at the last minute for copies.

ahhh, that's to add to the confusion! From a VISA point of view it's day 1. They don't like making it simple.

It's worth noting that the day you arrive isn't considered "day 0", it's "day 1". That's fooled a few people!

On that basis you can't at the moment. As you don't use a visa, your "home" is not in Thailand.

Yes. I have opened 2 on 30 day visa exemptions ... BUT always take a Thai person with you. Most recent was Bangkok Bank in Central Khon Kaen.
