Does anyone know how I could get in from Sierra Leone. I work here and usually travel back to my home in Phuket with the 30 days my UK passport allows without a visa. There is no Thai Embassy here so have no idea how to get a visa if I can’t use my passport.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking advice on how to enter Thailand from Sierra Leone, where there is no Thai Embassy. They typically travel on a UK passport allowing 30 days without a visa but are currently unsure how to obtain a visa considering the circumstances. Comments indicate that a visa is necessary and can only be acquired through a Thai embassy, and mention requirements such as a Certificate of Entry for specific categories of travelers.

Unfortunately there is no way unless via a Thai embassy/ consulate. You need a Certificate of Entry and that is only obtainable via them and only for a select group of people (business, marriage, family) at the moment. Perhaps 1st of October will see more doors open but it’s not looking likely until the new year at the moment.

A great part of this particular site is sharing and discussing information.

As far the statistics are concerned there is too much information out there that still needs to be collected and processed.

You absolutely correct that Thailand is for sure on top of the medical industry pioneers of new medicine and masters of older medicine that I’m more than confident that Thailand will have their own vaccine before other “developed” countries in the world. Thailand is a lot of things but third world Thailand is not.

If the people of Phuket you sited don’t want international tourism back until they feel safe I’m more than ok with that it’s their choice.

For sure people will cheat. I saw other media reports that people from neighboring countries are sneaking back in for economic reasons. Yes people will fall through the cracks without a doubt.

I saw another member of the group predicted that a opening in February or March next year is a realistic timeframe.

All we can do is take it a day at a time, be optimistic and take care of ourselves.

, do not blow statistics out of proportion, as the anti-government media is constantly doing, and also get your timelines right. The cases of domestic violence increased when full lockdown went into affect, and the sale of alcohol was stopped. Now it is back to normal. The 22% increase in suicides may sound drastic, and suicide by itself is, but these news reports fail to give the actual numbers because that takes away from the drama. Consider the dramatic difference between say 1220 people committing suicide, instead of a normal 1000, or, because of the same reasons, 27 people commit suicide instead of the normal 22. Which is more dramatic. The second numbers, which are actual numbers, sound much better dramatically, if it is listed as 22%, instead of 5 more than last year. You also mention the business owners saying if the ban on tourists continues it might take Phuket 5 years to get back to normal, but fail to mention that not only the health department, but the people living there, do not want tourism restarted. One thing the government is using to base their decisions on opening tourism back up, and to whom, is the number of cases of this virus that are showing up in repatriated people in quarantine, and where they came from. They are also following the statistics and actual numbers collected by John Hopkins university concerning infections and deaths worldwide, and separated by each country, and region within those countries. Thailand's health, and medical research departments are some of the best in the world, and recognized as such worldwide. In this regard Thailand is not third world. They know exactly what they are doing and why. They also know, and this is a big determining factor, that given the chance, people will cheat.

that Japan city idea is daft as it would involve locking down the city domestically to allow international tourism.

. Most of the ideas put forward have elements of "daftness". They're struggling to find some way to let people from Asia back in again
Dominic ****
Mark Price You're the one making unqualified statements, so you're in no position to be asking others to qualify their disagreement. You only need to look at the UK quarantine system to see that they're mostly basing it on what happened in the past 7 days. Why would Brits be at the back of the Thailand queue later this year or into next year simply because lots of people died from covid there back in Spring?
Dominic ****
Mark Price The high UK death rate from earlier this year will be irrelevant. The real time situation will be all that matters.

. The Thai government has talked for months about "bubbles", and although none of this talk has translated into action, the talk of bubbles has normally focused on neighbouring countries, and especially China, as these places provide the overwhelming bulk of tourists to Thailand. Although us farangs like to believe we are contributing heavily to Thai tourism, the cold hard facts that as groups we are not. The only farangs mentioned in the last round of "plans" for tourism were Australians, which indicates the Thais are not aware of the ban on Australians leaving their own country. The negative news from both the UK and the US relating to covid "cases" is not endearing these countries to the Thai decision makers. I agree with Mark Price that open tourism is a long way off yet and I'm starting to think his thoughts of Feb/March 2021 are a little ambitious. I have nothing to base my thoughts on, other than seeing these continual proposals being delayed, postponed, cancelled is that a slow dripfeed of tourists from Asia will commence before the end of this year, and monitoring of this scheme will allow gradual reopening, but I'm sensing the middle of the year before we start seeing western farangs re-entering in any large numbers

@Bobby *******
there was actually very little talk of bubbles. It lasted for a couple of weeks then went quiet. UK daily deaths are in single figures and there may or may not be a second wave about to kick off. Everything is unpredictable. 2-3 months from now there may be hundreds dying per day in the UK, or perhaps in China.
Bobby ********
@Dominic ********
. I used the term "bubbles" generally. The actual terminology has been changed several times since the. This article from a few weeks ago refers to the scheme as "safe and sealed", although if you read the last paragraph they are still talking of a bubble with a city in Japan, so this "bubble" was still active just a few weeks ago. One thing I do agree is everything is unpredictable at this stage, including the proposals of Thai Tourism, which don't always gel with those of the Thai government.

Mark Price this is something that I could never understand when they did the list. No cases in Thailand for months and they left them off. That would of just pissed them off so we had no chance.

yeah sorry I should of mentioned that I’m only thinking of if they start bringing in tourists in October. I know it’s not possible yet. Just wasn’t sure if you still needed a visa or a UK passport would be good enough?

I know but they’re letting others back in like film crews and the rest. Obviously I understand people who are married and have kids but if they can let in film crews they can let in home owners too. At the end of the day it seems they’re letting these in for money so they should sympathize with those of us that have chosen to spend our hard earned money on our homes there. I know they won’t but some people are stranded as they have nowhere else to go.

owning a home does not require to be in Thailand.

Those who work with a non-B + WP can enter. And some other temporary work.

You seem to be assimilated as a tourist. So no entry yet. Maybe in 2021....
Bobby ********
@Kevin ********
. If you want to demonstrate your willingness to spend your hard earned money, buy an Elite Visa. That will endear you more to the Thai government than buying a condo. I'm sure they are aware you bought the condo as an investment vehicle to eventually make a profit, and not as a generous contribution to the Thai economy! A foreigner owning property in a country which effectively has a military junta government is not a good bargaining point!

@Bobby *******
I just had a conversation on another post on this page about Thai Elite was discussed. Apparently Thai Elite holding is not enough from what I was told.

As the mentioned on this thread I believe that a February/ March reopening date is realistic time frame if not longer. According to a article that was I believe in Pattaya One this article interviewed local businesses community about two weeks ago. The overwhelming consensus by business owners is that if international tourism doesn’t start within the next 90-180 days that the local tourism industry will just be damaged so severely it will take at least 5 years to get back to 2019 numbers. Another factor from a social standpoint is that the amount of suicides have increased so much that it’s becoming a crisis point due to unemployment and bankruptcy’s.

Not to mention the domestic violence and increased alcohol and drug abuse is also becoming a serious problem.

That’s the economic side I believe.

The Dominican Republic another tourism dependent country has taken the route of all is welcome and if you get corvid in the Dominican Republic the Dominican Government will pay for the treatment. 🤔

Apology for going off subject is that if you work in Serra Leon with a work permit does that make you a resident ?

Can try that angle with getting a visa.

Good Luck and let the group know how it all works out for you.
Bobby ********
@Patrick *******
. I think you have me confused with another post. I am not in Sierra Leone! In fact, I'm in Thailand on a retirement visa with no intention of leaving! Probably for another two years! I agree the Elite Visa is still a no, but it's close. Whereas condo owner tourists will be one of the last.
Patrick ********
@Bobby *******
Yes I got the reply’s mixed up. Sorry for the confusion.

@Kevin ********
nope. Visa still required and COE plus insurance,quarantine and COVID tests et al. The plan for tourists to be allowed in October has been scrapped for the moment. Maybe more news in October but I wouldn’t be holding my breath.

Mark Price I’m just hoping they allow property owners to come back as unless I’m at work I have nowhere else to live.

if you own condo you can apply COE but still jump hoops

. Condo owner is not on the list. Of course you can apply. Anyone can apply. But it will get nowhere

On that basis you can't at the moment. As you don't use a visa, your "home" is not in Thailand.
