Anonymous participant 905 I also would not be at all surprised if all banks follow BKk banks lead . I know a few expats with other banks who have had a partial lock . They could still remit money but outward transactions locked until they visited branch & verified their visa status & other documents

Who pays the fee ? Sorry I don't know any money exchangers or financial transfer services who pay the mid market rate inclusive of fees and are set up to make a loss as opposed to profit

He was lucky he was allowed in . At the very least I would have got a METV . No guarantee you're not going to face questions but suggests you have intention to spend significant time here as a tourist

555 .Yes it sounds like a fried chicken franchise.

Thailand banks are the same as my home country bank accounts & investments . They have KYC protocol & I know full well it is my responsibility to keep that information up to date

I think you're joking if you've made a thread about banking & not know what KYC is .

But I'll play along to humour you .

The BOT (Bank of Thailand) have instructed all banks to rigouressly update & implement their Know Your Customer (KYC) procedures to mitigate fraudulent & illegal activities.

KYC is implemented by all banks worldwide . Your KYC information will be passport number , address , phone number , reason for opening account (ie visa status ).

Those that have had their accounts locked are required to go in branch to verify all of the above KYC information is up to date & meets their current criteria

I disagree . Not that I have insider knowledge.. You'll see countless posts across FB groups saying if you did not use an agent or did not open a/c on a visa exempt or tourist visa your a/c will not be locked . That's vehemently disputed by companies that have daily dealings with BKK bank .

My advice would be to visit your branch & update your KYC information which has nothing to do with the app .

I failed to follow my own advise & my a/c is locked

That would be quite long winded . As I recall & not as security sensitive as financials . A Power of Attorney & required passport & documents Notarized by a registered Notary lawyer .Having done that the required documents have to be further certified by an authorised registered Thai representative. The power of attorney as I recall is Thai language document so that would require translation service to satisfy home country Notary lawyer

I'm not as paranoid as I used to be , but still use 3 mobiles & another device with an auto connect VPN to different regions depending on what I'm up to . I don't have the same app across devices & only activate location for mapping on Thai device . It's a bit extreme carrying 4 devices around on a trip

I maintain a UK PAYG phone number top up for £10 yearly . Having said that my Halifax current a/c & c/c no longer use OTP's & just auto open my Halifax app where I authorise payments from
