first of all. . you told the IO you wanted to stay 60 days. You did not have a visa to do that. So that's most likely the problem. Nothing to do with not liking tourists.

when you arrived you hadn't already checked in to hotel/ accomodation so wouldn't have a TM30. Arrival Immigration wouldn't ask for this. You're now asking about going to an immigration office to extend stay, different thing to arriving.

visa on arrival is not for Aus passport holders. They can enter exempt of any visa for 30 days. And can extend for 30 days.

entering Thailand for a holiday as UK citizen is not difficult: no visa required for 30 days and can extend for an extra 30 days. Unlike trying to enter UK for a holiday as a Thai which is not so easy.

no one knows. It's the proposal for changes including visa-exempt.
