For the 90 day reporting, yes. The 1st time in person and then online after. If you leave the country before then it resets when you return.

I applied end of August with a contract starting October 1. They asked why. I told them that I wanted to make sure I had my Visa sorted 1st and that I was doing everything legally.

 also, Thailand checked that I had canceled my existing visa at the airport. It had zero impact on my DTV application.

 I did that exact same thing. My school cancelled my WP. I canceled my non-B. Left. Applied for the DTV in Laos. Easy.
