I think a lot of retirees and married to Thai on non-O visas will be switching to DTV. The 5-year tenure is very attractive without the need to go to immigration every year. Those who have purchased Elite and LTR visas will be kicking themselves now

Being broke at 55 doesn't qualify anyone for Thailand. The retirement visa has a

baht foreign transfer requirement. You can always apply for the Elite Visa, that is open to all ages. You obviously haven't spent long periods in Thailand or you would know that brilliant new visa schemes are often mentioned and nothing comes of them. The media pounces on them and turns them into clickbait. For anyone to hold up their entire life waiting on a Thai government/media proposal is ridiculous
