ORIGINAL POSTER
OA visa has expired, now on the additional stamped in second year which will expire on January 5th 2021 Have a multiple re-entry permit up until then. If I apply for a new passport (current one is full) in October 2020 whilst in Australia, how does this affect my re-entry permit? If I carry both passports to show IO at airport will this suffice? And can I get re-entry permit transferred to new passport once inside Thailand?

Thank you

TLDR : Answer Summary
If you apply for a new passport while on an OA visa with a valid multiple re-entry permit, you can travel with both passports to show the immigration officer upon your return to Thailand. Ensure you note your re-entry permit number on your arrival card. After returning, visit your local immigration office to transfer your re-entry permit to your new passport.

Current passport is full, but not that full to travel to Australia as you must have space for an exit stamp. Yes, after return in Thailand please write your re-entry permit number on the arrival card as visa number, show the immigration officer both passports and the re-entry stamp, make sure you get the same end day as jan 5th 2021 and after that you can visit your local immigration office to transfer the re-entry permit.

yes, that is the way it supposed to be as you want re-entry and use again your existing admitted or permitted to stay.

The old invalid visa on your passport can not be used, so why even mention it.

do you always write your re-entry permit number as the visa number on the arrival card when re-entering Thailand ?
