Hi group!

I’m a UK citizen. Have a Bangkok Bank account with more than 800k seasoned for over 3 years and meet all visa requirements.

Question: I plan to arrive on 30 day visa exempt - is it then possible to apply for the 90 day Non-O and the 1 year extension at the same time?

Thanks for constructive answers 🙏

TLDR : Answer Summary
A UK citizen with an established Bangkok Bank account seeks to understand if they can apply for a 90-day Non-O visa and a 1-year extension simultaneously upon arriving in Thailand with a 30-day visa exemption. Responses indicate that it's not possible to apply for both together; first, the 90-day Non-O visa must be obtained, after which the extension can be applied for when the visa is approaching expiration. Moreover, it is crucial to provide proof that the required funds originated from abroad, and additional requirements may vary depending on immigration office policies.

if you apply for the change from the visa-exempt to the 90-days Non-Imm-O retirement visa in Jomtien, you don't need to prove the money came from abroad on the Jomtien Immigration office. However they will need a bank statement that the money has been seasoned for a minimum of two months (get a 3-months statement for your safety)

You need to apply for the non-o visa when you have 15 days (21 days in a few places) left on your visa exempt stamp. Normally they then tell you to return when that stamp is expiring and give you a 90 day non-o visa stamp in your passport, if you want to leave in that 90 days you need a re-entry permit to keep that stamp alive. You need to return before that stamp expires to apply for the 12 month extension of stay which you normally get the day you apply, if you plan to leave again after getting that stamp you will need another re-entry permit

ask your Immigration! Most of them require a proof that the money came from abroad. So even if you have seasoned the required 800.000.- THB for 3 years, it doesn't matter much when applying for the initial 90-days Non-Imm-O visa, if you can't prove it originally came from abroad

how does money become seasoned ?

@Jo *********
Leaving it in the bank for the required amount of time.

English is such an odd language I know about the seasons winter summer and to season food. But money this is new to me.

@Jo *********
Its a financial term and it's new to many. Mortgage seasoning is the amount of time lenders require funds to have been in your bank account

at first it sounded very funny. Thanks

I did both together on arrival using an agent in May last year. I already had an account for many years with more than enough money in it.

I understand this it's possible to get it here now but I can't understand why not just get the non o from the home country 🤔

Then it's so easy to make the extension

thanks for that. Sorry, it wasn’t clear. I’m uk passport holder but don’t live in the UK so seems that’s not an option for me.

Okay obviously I don't know where you are but many places you can get a non o at a Thai consulate like I have done in Laos for example.

But then it's an option for you to do it here.

But no you can't do it same time. But the immigration office will explain to you when you apply for the non o.

I’m in China. I’ll check it out but seems like the non o then extension in Thailand was easy enough but I guess I just need to follow the timings. Thanks again.

@David ********
Yeah you have to get the 90 day non o first, then do the 12 month extension up to 30 or 45 days before it expires.

Stupid question: can I leave the country after getting the non o and go back to get the extension (of course getting a multiple entry non o!)?
John ********
@David ********
yes with a reentry permit you can leave on the non O
Roy *********
@David ********
That's a good question, I don't know but possibly!

Then you have to ask immigration when you get the non o.

It varies where you are how they practice the rules.

That's why I said up to 30 or 45 days before.

Here where I live in Udon Thani they will do 45 days before but other places 30 days before. Honestly don't know if they would give a non o with multiple entry.

also if you apply in the uk you don’t need medical insurance

You cannot apply for them together. First you apply for the 90 day non-O visa. When you have 30 days left on that (or 45 days at some immigration offices) you can then apply for the 1-year extension.

Note that for the 90 day non-O visa you'll need to be able to prove that the money was transferred from overseas at most immigrants offices.

Why not apply for a 90 days Non-immigrant O Visa from back home? This is by far the easiest way to do it. Then you just have to make one visit (after ~60 days) to immigration for a 1 year extension.

Yes, that’s how I got my first one and I wanted to reset to do it myself.

thanks a lot for your very clear answer. I can prove the overseas transfer. I was just hoping to get it done in the shortest time possible.

this is Thailand. Sabai Sabai Khun Farang 😂

@David ********
To achieve the shortest time possible skip the Visa Exempt entry and get your Non-O from the eVisa system (if available) before you travel and get a 90 day entry stamp
Brandon ************
@David ********
it's very common for agents to give you your passport back and have both stamps already, but you cannot do it yourself.
Joe ******
@Brandon ***********
you must be very careful using a agent who gets both stamps in at the same time. It's easy for immigration to pick this up and cause issues. I have seen this happen before.
