TLDR : Answer Summary
The proposed DTV (Destination Thailand Visa) has faced uncertainty and confusion regarding its implementation. Originally announced with a start date of July 1st, many individuals—including agents and immigration officials—report a lack of confirmation or knowledge about this visa. Comments suggest that it may not yet be approved, and previous visa announcements have often encountered delays or failed to materialize entirely. Some sources speculate about the future of the visa, mentioning rumors of a possible rollout on October 1st, but until it's officially published in the royal gazette, details remain largely speculative.

Why is everyone so unappreciative of Thailand 🇹🇭?

You are here, aren’t you? Or, you’re about to come here?

Just go with the flow and stop complaining, people!

This is a beautiful country and may not be run as Trump or Biden would run it - God help us all, if that was going to be the case!!!

Stop complaining and enjoy this beautiful country and it’s people 💕

You've either not been here long or don't live here at all!

@Joe *********
I’m not going to get into a stupid argument here. But I will tell you that I’ve been coming to Thailand 🇹🇭 most years for the last 40 years.

Nowadays, since I retired, I spend more time in Thailand 🇹🇭 than what I do in Australia 🇦🇺.

If you are going to be disrespectful again, I obviously won’t reply.

We shouldn't be surprised that little thought went into this new visa before it was announced. Another half arsed idea with immi offices everywhere seemingly not aware of it.
Max *************
People have obviously read the incorrect article about 180+180 days per year. That's not correct. It's just one time per 5 years. Cost: ฿10k/180 days.
Max *************
@Richard *******
They haven't mentioned anywhere that you need to leave the country for the extension.
Richard ********
@Max ************
they are proposing a multy entry visa as part of the process. You will have to leave the country after 180 days, return next day or later, pay 10k on re-entry is how I read it.
Philip ********
So my understanding is 180 days exit then return same calendar year. Just pay B1900 on return.

This is probably too good to be true.

I went to the immigration office in Thailand and the entire office had no idea what I’m talking about. I just got a 30 days extension and left.

As it stands now nothing is official yet. The details, and requirements, are being refined. Currently the visa will have a bt10,000 fee, and a bank deposit for the length of the entry of bt500,000, then bt10,000 for each extension. Most are not aware of this bank deposit proposed requirement. Most every long term visa has a financial requirement, and this will be no different.
Oliver **********
They recently revised it. Now you have to provide four pints of blood, a chicken sandwich and your firstborn gerbil. Pending governmental approval

well, ok, this is a government site. So this is widespread confusion, the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. And we all know, what they published did not happen, yet. And will most probably never happen 😎
Stephan ***********
@Andreas ********
The government do what it always do... they will decide something, whatever, whenever, and they will make it official one or two days before... as usual. All the "hype" before and around is made by "the media" and all the people who push this topic in social media again and again. I saw the first complaints from travellers on the 1st this month, because they got only a 30 day stamp on entry... 😁
Brandon ************
@Andreas ********

Mike *******
This is not a new pattern … only about 10% of announcements actually become law, and these are almost always late. Patience is your friend.
Brandon ************
No, nothing was supposed to start 1st July.

The Prime Minister's office announced that some of the "short term" measures may start end of June or early July, but the DTV is not one of the short term measures.

All of the items are still just a proposal, and no one knows if or when any of them will actually become reality. There have been dozens of times just since covid where big announcements were made and the media published tons of clickbait articles as if they were already a done deal, only for no one to ever hear of them again.

Don't count on anything until it's published as law in the royal gazette. Until then it's just a rumor.
Stephan ***********
@Brandon ***********
Well... actually it is (or was?) one of the announced short term measures... 🤔🙄

it was on one of the many new channels I watch, prob TNT news where it was read for a government extract stating it was delayed until Oct. I’ll try and search back for it.

It's not been approved and not available. No one knows when or if they will start it.

This has held up my entire life waiting on this. Can’t even plan anything else because it’s all depending on how the 180days is structured
Jim ********
@Eric ******
You hold up your life waiting for a possible Thailand government initiative? Seriously? I'm sure you're joking! I've lived here for 15 years and if I had a dollar for every "proposal" put forward by the government which was never followed through, I'd be sitting in my Ferrari right now! This was the last one. It's a long mull!
Eric *******
@Jim *******
not joking. As someone too young for retire visa there are no options in the world to move to as a USA citizen besides PH Cambodia and possibly Thailand. Unless you make 80k/yr or plan on working, neither of which apply to me. If your 55 you can be broke and any country will take you but if your young w money nobody will
Jim ********
@Eric ******
Being broke at 55 doesn't qualify anyone for Thailand. The retirement visa has a
*****
baht foreign transfer requirement. You can always apply for the Elite Visa, that is open to all ages. You obviously haven't spent long periods in Thailand or you would know that brilliant new visa schemes are often mentioned and nothing comes of them. The media pounces on them and turns them into clickbait. For anyone to hold up their entire life waiting on a Thai government/media proposal is ridiculous
Manuel *********
@Eric ******
it’s gonna be 180 days + 180 days within 5 years everything else doesn’t make sense

sounds like 180day per year for 5 years to me

no for that amount of time there is the LTR visa
