No, it depends on your visa. You don't need to change you visa until it expires.

There is no need for expensive agents, I did it all in a day once I got my declaration of being single back from the embassy

Cost me abt 1000-2000 thb to get married, you can get a one year multiple entry from outside Thailand and just need to get a stamp every 3 months

 this is what I've been told. I even tried giving my wife Power of Attorney to take care of my financial matters in Thailand but cannot do that either.
