TLDR : Answer Summary
There are reports that many countries, including Thailand, are suspending regular postal mail to the US due to a political shift regarding the Deminimus rule, which eliminates duty-free imports for parcels valued under $800. This situation has led to confusion and uncertainty about customs processing for the thousands of packages sent daily to the US. However, major shipping services like FedEx, UPS, and DHL continue to operate. Some commenters noted that exceptions exist for regular mail and low-value gifts. Despite these suspensions, individuals are still receiving mail from Thailand.

The US has suspended the Deminimus concession whereby parcels valued at under $800 could be imported duty free. This concession is agreed with many countries worldwide and negotiated through the World Customs Union, based on the premise that there is a value below which it costs more to collect the duties/vat than the amount collected - very sensible approach……however in the US its been politicised resulting in its complete removal…..this will involve carriers like DHL/Fedex/UPS and EMS/Post having to clear parcels formally and have to collect duties and vat from thousands of one off importers……they will probably look to online retailers to include duty/vat/admin in the purchase price at time of ordering…….upshot of all this is many online buyers will realize their product is now 30% ++ more expensive and they will buy locally instead of online which is probably the intention of the changes. Similar changes happened in Thailand last year…….

These suspensions have been reported in every major newspaper and news website in (for example) Europe the last week.I do think regular mail (without items) + gifts worth less than $100 are excepted.

Many countries are suspending regular postal mail to the US until the de minimus rule fallout is all figured out. I believe Fedex, UPS and DHL are still functioning though.

The US has not indicated to partner postal services how they will be handling 4 million packages per day that will now be required to go through customs and have taxes collected. Until that information is clarified, most countries are ceasing it.
