I don't know on what visa you stay in Thailand now, but when it is not a long stay visa, you have to leave the country anyway, so when your current visa expands you apply for DTV for next visit, but with DTV you have to exit the country again since it is not a long stay visa, so having DTV will also exhaust you.
You can only apply for a visa which is meant for visiting a country from outside the country, that is quite normal in the whole world.
When you ignore this rules and pretend you are somewhere else that indeed is risky, and when discovered it might not only result in rejecting the visa, but also in a ban
Dummy tickets are just normal tickets bought by the company that offers the service and then cancels them afterwards.
But because it are not always the most logical tickets you should buy by yourself when you really travel, the immigration officer might get suspicious.
A break out of Thailand certainly is nice but also wastes a lot of time when only for a weekend, at least more time than the average visit to an immigration office. But 180 days in Thailand is a long time, so I do not see the need for extensions at all.
I divide spending my time between Thailand and Europe, but when 180 days was not enough I would simply extend at immigration office, the way it is meant .
I agree with you, I already extended a 30 day stay visa exempt more than once at immigration, even while our home is about 75 kilometers from Malaysian border.
It is just faster to go to immigration, but that might be different at other immigaration offices.
But now with DTV I probably never need extension again, 180 days is a longtime.
I trust the visa, and I know it is not shocking neus I got in with it.
I just wanted to share my experience, and emphasize DTV can be an option also for people like me with Thai partner, for which non-o might be meant by Thai authorities.
I think non-o is the better choice when whole year in Thailand, while DTV is much more flexible when travelling.
