For what it's worth, we did a visa run, return from Chiang Mai to KL at the beginning of August. We had the baht but we weren't asked for it upon our return to CM.

I just got an SETV in Kuala Lumpur Kyron. The 60 days activates once you arrive in Thailand, but the you have to arrive within a certain time-frame as stated on the visa. I don't have my passport with me but that time-frame is maybe 3 months.

If you take the train from Airport to KL Sentral Station, it's 100 Ringgit per person return (55 one way) but a Grab is 65-75 so it's cheaper if there are two, or more, of you.

Edit: But probably 1 hr (or more depending on traffic) vs 30 min by train.

We stayed at Signature International Hotel @Pudu.

$125 CAD for 5 nights. Room was small but clean, with attached bathroom and a separate shower. The staff were friendly and helpful. You can book the room with or without breakfast. Good food options nearby.

It's within a 10 minute walk to Jalan Petaling (China Town), Bukit Bintang (bar and club street) and Jalan Alor (street food market). Also within a 10 to 20 minute walk of a couple of mass transit stations. Most rooms have a view of the city. Picture below is from the 4th floor and I think there are 8 in total.

It was a 15-20 minute, 7 Ringgit (55 baht) Grab ride from the hotel to the Thai Embassy.
