Steve James The way I got around it is that BK bank gave me the letter on the day I needed it but they froze 400k in my account for 4 months. I nervously opted for this and to their credit, they released the 400k as agreed after the 4 months elapsed. It was either this or leave the country and start the whole process again.

Typical bk bank with zero empathy. They implemented this rule last year with no notice. Totally screwed me! I went to Kbank but they said they needed 6 months for new customers and 2 months thereafter

If you arrive on a 60 day exempt then get a 30 day extension. Can you use this form to get another extension if you have a Thai child? Thanks.

That's normal practice in Buriram. Only issue I had was Bangkok Bank out of the blue decided that they would only issue the letter if your 400k was in your account for at least 4 months. Totally screwed me as they gave no notice of this change of policy. Zero empathy!

thanks for you replies. The marriage has been legally registered. I will pay a visit to Buriram immigration to ask the question. As yet I only have 200k in my Thai bank account which will shortly be at least 400k. I will read the other posts via the links you have provided.
