OK, I took the easy option, my hotel recommended the 'Local Boat' service at the Pier PTT Station. Closest business to the pier. Look for the sign with that name on it. There is at least one other visa agent there. I did not cost compare.

Yes I was 'robbed' after a small discount to 2,100 B, but my hand was held all the way and the visa fee in Myanmar was paid out of that sum. I'm a happy bunny at that price. A exemption renewal at a provincial office is I seem to recall 1,600 B, so the price is close.

Yeah, I know I could just pay 500 B for the boat, and what looked like a 500 B note to Myanmar Immigration, no USD needed. Maybe next time if there is a next time.

But on the other hand I was not asked on the Thai inbound side for any of the things I had

* funds (20,000 B in cash),

* a hotel booking for tonight, and

* an outbound ticket from Thailand.

I attribute that to the charms of 'Local Boat'. However, your mileage may differ, of course.

I gave 20 B to the fixer on the Myanmar side cause he was so charming in his efforts to separate me from money etc, did I want to buy Indian manufactured Viagra, did I want coffee, did I have a cig for him? He was happy with that.

At some stages (visits to two Thai islands en route, and one on the way back) your boatman will ask for your ppt. Just give it to him, he will show it at the right widows and give it back.

Whole thing took from 9am to 11.45am

Oh news to me thanks,
@Graham *****
any idea how an application for a month multiple entry visa would be viewed after a visa exemption entry and an extension to that... guess it may be up to the person processing the visa

Thanks everyone. Result here:

After an initial diagnosis and prescription for antibiotics at a smaller dentist, I felt unsatisfied with them for a root canal job, despite having a visiting root canal specialist.

So decided to go a bit ore upmarket, and checked out Bangkok Hospital Siriroj which satisfied me.

Not on the same level as Chiangmai Ram Hospital which I have used in the past but good enough :)
