Search for other posts about applications from Pakistan. I am pretty sure it was said the approval had to be made in Bangkok and not locally - that is why it may take longer.

As Pete says above. Retirement is easy to get. I would advise him to get the "O" based on Retirement in Thailand though rather than O-A" he could get in the USA. He would come to Thailand on 60 Day Visa exempt. Apply for the "O" - he would get 90 days then a 1 year so first application gives him 15 months.

Exactly - there is no way that Immigration only has the information from the PDF. The notion is ridiculous. That you could go to Immigration for an extensions and decide how you want to extend. For example "I came in on a cookery Course but I have a few dental appointments so please extend Mr IO using those." :-)
