Subject: Request to Reschedule DTV Interview Appointment

Hello,

I am currently in Vientiane and recently received a visa appointment scheduled for next week. However, an urgent business meeting has come up, and I cannot wait until then.

Is it possible to reschedule my interview appointment? I have tried emailing and calling all the contacts listed on the embassy website, but I have not received any replies.

I would appreciate any advice you can provide.

Thank you!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is looking to reschedule their DTV visa interview in Vientiane due to an immediate business meeting. They attempted to contact the embassy without success. Community members advise caution as attending a business meeting in Thailand while on a DTV visa could raise red flags regarding their visa legitimacy. Suggestions include waiting for the interview, seeking online meeting alternatives, and contacting the embassy through different means.

Go to the “important” meeting, but then you probably would be rejected, loose the 10.000 baht visa fee, and have to do a new application, and again stay in another country for a week or two, with those travel expenses that will bring.

If they didn't reply you then it means they can't reschedule. By claiming u got an urgent meeting in Thailand is going to bring your application to get rejected, u can't conduct any sort of physical business in Thailand, even with the DTV. Is that meeting more important than 10k spent for the application? If yes then go for it and then apply again in Vietnam otherwise u just move your meeting

Did you also try to contact the Thai Embassy in Vientiane via Facebook or Facebook Messenger??

An urgent meeting shouldn't happen as you're supposed to be a digital nomad and can't conduct business in Thailand. It would then be better if you wait in the country of application and request an online business meeting instead.

Personally, i would give the benefit of the doubt to the Anonymous OP and say the urgent business meeting is not in Thailand nor Laos, but somewhere else

As for it being in-person meeting versus virtual meeting via Zoom, Webex, or other platform; well, being a digital nomad, remote worker, freelance drifter, etc. sometimes having a face-to-face meeting is beneficial

A business meeting planned more than a week out is not exactly urgent is it lol

I have worked on Mega Projects globally ie 1 Billion USD+. Yes face to face meeting are very beneficial but 90+% of the time these days they are not needed.

I agree it sometimes is better to meet in person and not on Zoom or Teams, but when an urgent meeting appears instantly out of the blue, it should always be possible to attend digitally.

DTV means you are a digital nomad, therefore you do not work in Thailand. Therefore any urgent business meeting would be online, not in person. If you are saying to the embassy you need to return to Thailand for an urgent business meeting, you are putting a red flag on your application

Agreed... they will think he's already working in Thailand with customers inside Thailand.

It could be an "urgent" meeting of nomads? Who knows? Haha. But, what's sure is that normally you don't ask the Embassy to reschedule an appointment for your own convenience. Normally they tell you when to go, and you either go or don't (with what not going implies, of course).

Which visa does he actually want to use to return to Thailand? Working on a tourist visa is not permitted, so he gets several red flags
Finn *******
How come they can request interviews for some People?

Is it when they are suspicious as to whether your doing legitimate work or not?
John **********
@Finn ******
it's often a final step to check you are still in the country you applied in

correct ✅

and to confirm the bank account balances...they ask you to pull up your bank account on-line using your cellphone.

@Finn ******
in Vientiane and Savannakhet an interview is mandatory. Everyone has to go through it. In other countries only if they have a suspicion
Finn *******
yeah i get you glad i didn't go there haha
Tim ***********
@Finn ******
Don't imagine the interview as if you were applying for a CEO position at a major bank. They're very nice and polite and just want to get to know you so they know who they're giving a five-year visa to.
Tod *********
@Finn ******
pretty much everyone who applies for a DTV at either Vientiane or Savannakhet gets interviewed, and they email you to set it up after you go to the consulate to pay in person for the visa (which you do after you apply online and get the confirmation code)
Greg ********
@Finn ******
Or they want to make sure you are in the country you applied
Finn *******
ahhh okay makes sense
Tim ***********
It's very unusual that the appointment is next week, because you usually get an email in the afternoon and have to show up for the interview the next day. The appointments are scheduled at such short notice so that people who are already back in Thailand don't have the opportunity to travel to Laos so quickly. What I also find quite strange is that there's a counter where you can pay the 10,000 baht every morning. You must know this counter because you paid the 10,000 baht there. So why don't you just go there and talk to the person at the counter? That makes the most sense. Something is not right about your story.

I would suggest waiting for the interview at the embassy first, as the visa will likely be approved shortly after the interview. However, if it really doesn't work out, you may need to email the embassy.

Alternatively, you could consider postponing the meeting plan.

I hope this helps you in some way.

You mean you want to leave Vientiane, go to the meeting (Thailand) and then return later to Vientiane for the rescheduled interview? Good luck with that!
Finn *******
@Greg *******
that’s mental If you have to do that surely

Do the interview in Laos
