Hello, my visa extension is due to expire later this month. Unfortunately I may need surgery and likley aftercare that would cause me to overstay. Am I able to visit an immigration office with documentation confirming this prior to the overstay? Or would I just present this when I actually leave Thailand?

My daughter is in BKK hospital (emergency), and won’t be released for a week yet.

Her visa runs out tomorrow.

She has no way of going to the embassy for extension (already extended her visa on arrival for one month).

Will she have to pay a fine on leaving BKK even if she gets a doctor/hospital certificate?

If she has to pay- is it in cash or credit card?

Thanks please be nice we are so stressed already with her illness.

update today 31/3, the hospital are going to apply for an extension medical on tuesday, they want paying of course 5500 baht, but hoping insurance will cover this.

As we dont know when daughter will come out of hospital yet (doctor says at least 7 days), we have opted for this for peace of mind. The hospital also said she could pay 500 but a day at airport

I have a few questions regarding getting a medical-based visa extension.

I have studied on studied on the internet, but I can't seem to extract definitive information as it pertains to my situation. I would appreciate any thoughts you have to offer.

I am currently here on a 6 month METV. The 6 months period and my current visa stamp is due to expire on May 19th.

It is my understanding that I can leave and return on a border bounce not long before May 19th and get another 60 day stamp even though the METV 6 month time-frame will have expired. That is true, correct?

That is all well and good, except I am due to get a double-knee replacement in Bangkok on April 21st. I have my doubts I would physically be up to doing a a border bounce only about 3.5 weeks after the surgeries. Especially since they are doing both knees at once.

I can get a letter from the hospital stating my medical treatment and a prescribed time after surgeries for recuperation and physical therapy. I would estimate that they would say 60 or 90 days after the surgeries. That would work for me.

My question is how exactly do I go about getting a medical visa extension? Just go to immigration with that letter and hope they grant me that extension from the date of the surgeries?

Another question is I would hope to be able to do it before the surgeries since I will not feel like traipsing around to immigration offices for quite some time after the surgeries.

One more question. Can I try to obtain the medical extension at the Jomtien immigration office, or do I have to do it in Bangkok since that is where the hospital is and where I will stay during recuperation.

THANKS A BUNCH!!

Hello. I have a Canadian passport and entered Thailand on a 60 day tourist visa on November 6, 2023. I then went to the Phuket immigration office and got a 30 day extension until February 3, 2024.

I was planning to leave Thailand in early February but got hurt and needed surgery and the hospital helped me to extend my visa. They took my passport and BKK immigration gave me a 60 day extension until March 26.

Is it possible to get another 30 day extension at Phuket immigration from a medical extension or do I need to do a border run and come back on visa exempt status?

Thank you

Medical Visa Extension

After my AC Joint surgery I would need further treatment. My hospital adviced me to do the medical visa extension (Got the letter from doc). Anyone knows how to apply for that? Does anyone have a Website or Checklist for required documents?

Thank you very much!

Is there such a thing as a medical extension for a visitor from the US? I'm awaiting test results to see if I might need to have a surgical procedure done that, with recovery and follow-up, could run over both our 45-day visitor entry (expiring Nov 27) and the normal 30-day extension (would expire ~Dec 27).

Hi Todd and all,

A friend of mine arrives in Thailand with 14 days visa and he's now admitted to Phaya Thai 3 Hospital for medical reasons. The hospital has provided him with the letter to extend his visa for another 30 days or 60 days.

Which is the best way to extend his stay now?

Thanks in advance.

Hi guys. Me and my husband are under Tourist visa extension due to medical reason - I gave birth last April. Our baby doesn't have a passport yet and our visa will run out on June 5th. Any advice on what to do and what requirements are needed for us to extend? Also, do Thai landlords automatically report to the immigration for our TM 30? Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Hoping to get some advice on medical extension.

Particularly before I make the trip to immigration office, as I'm not physically mobile due to my injury

I arrived on 60 day tourist visa. Had a serious accident. Treating hospital has given me a certificate as I'm not medically fit to fly. Couple of questions:

1)Does anyone know what other paperwork I need i.e photos, proof of address etc

2) is the extension a set length of time like 30,60,90 day, or is it the length written on the medical certficate.

3)After the medical extension expires. If I would like to stay (try to have the holiday I planned before my accident) would still be able to apply for my 30 day tourist extension or maybe covid extension.

Thanks for any tips in advance.

I am after a bit of advice regarding a friend who is currently in quarantine hospital and now on an overstay. He entered the country on the 30 day visa exempt and was due to fly out on the last of his 30 days but tested positive to covid on the fit to fly test. He was then sent to a quarantine hotel/ hospital in Bangkok but then due to running out of meds for diabetes was sent to a hospital to finish off his quarantine period. He is aware he's heading for a big overstay but I'm here seeking any advice or options he has to avoid the dreaded stamp in his passport or even reduce the cost when exiting the country?
