TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is facing an impending visa expiration while recovering from illness. Responses suggest contacting the hospital for documentation supporting their condition, as this can aid in requesting a visa extension. However, it is noted that extensions are often not granted unless the individual is seriously incapacitated. Overall, advice includes contacting the hospital and immigration, exploring travel insurance options, and considering options like medical evacuation or traveling to neighboring countries if unfit to travel.

Simple. The hospital will certainly sort this out if you are unfit to travel in their opinion. Immigration will go along with their decision.

Define "too ill to travel". When I hopped in on a walker with my broken leg in Bangkok, the immigration officer told me and my gf, that if I was in any way mobile after my extension runs out, I should leave and re enter. You basically need to be stuck in a hospital bed or unconscious for a medical extension to be given. As a side note, wheelchairs are the BEST way to get through SE Asian airports. 😁

Eventually it felt too incertain and a lot of work too to extend, i took upon myself and managed to do a visa bounce at the border of Laos.

I wanna thank everyone for taking time to give a kind/useful answer, that felt very supportive ❀

I went to immigration many years ago, as my visa was about to expire. I had a bad dose of food poisoning and told the IO., I was too ill to travel. She said she could give me a 15 day extension for 1,900 baht

Go home. Sounds like you are faking it. It is obvious by your previous posts that you are trying to live in Thailand on short term visas and anything else you can think of.

because the OP is clearly spinning us all a yarn, and suckers like you with equally low intelligence fall for his patter. Take 2 seconds to look, He spent more time here than his own country since end of 2019. He's had more visa's than a diplomat. And its insulting for him even think that some of us might not add 2+2 and see beyond what is written.

Which hospital ? Which doctor/surgeon ? Diagnosis/illness ? Reason not to travel ?

We were in a Covid lock down hospital during Covid for a MANDATORY 10 Days. We actually couldn’t leave. We missed our departure flight, by 6 days. We had a note from the hospital and at the Airport we still had to pay a 500 baht per day fine. 6,000 baht. Expect that, have cash. You exit visa will be red ink. Which means overstay.

Speak to doctor that treated you in hospital and tell him your situation that you was to fly out in 5 days and ask if he will write a letter requesting that you need an extension ,and need follow up appointment you will need him to say that also .than take it to immigration before your days are up .

I was able to get an extension ( 5 months ) though I had 2 broken arms 😊

I’m on medical extensions now due to my injury. You need a letter from your hospital. They should know what to write( you need farther magical treatment, can’t travel, etc).

Ask your hospital really

Depending on circumstances, visa extension can be arranged all is related to doctors and immigration, ask hospital to provide all necessary documents for immigration and if is possible ask them to contact the immigration in your name .... Thai national are always better point of contact person in such cases.

Book a short flight to KL and book a rental next to an eatery/mall where you can re-cooperate . Inquire with your airline for wheelchair assistance onto the plane.

I would do something like this too. Maybe Cambodia where it is cheap to stay in an Airbnb and sleep and see a doctor again if needed. Spicy soup also helps. Long flights can be daunting if you don't feel 100%.

You were obviously fit to travel when you posted about flying to KL 3 days ago. You're no longer a hospital patient so they're unlikely to help. The obvious answer is to leave Thailand before your permission to stay expires

Speak to the hospital to give you a letter stating you are unfit to travel. Immigration should extend your stay with that letter

It doesn't matter how you feel. It matters how your doctors and immigration consider your condition.

Your doctor/hospital would need to provide you paperwork to submit for a medical extension. Just know that for the most case these are denied unless you are admitted to the hospital in a very severe condition. If you can go to the immigration office to apply for an extension, you're well enough to get on a plane and leave the country.

I had conjunctivitis in 2023 and the doctor said I was unfit to fly. I was so sick at immigration and easily got a 30-day extension for medical reasons on an already extended TR-60 visa

Speak to the hospital that treated you. They would have dealt with this situation before.

Maybe if you mention what passport you're using and what visa/exemption/extension you currently have you may get some more useful information
